IAN KENDALL MUNROE
March 12, 1963 April 12, 2019
He is survived by his loving partner Patricia Dudrak and her son Harlan, his mother Margaret Munroe, brother Jamie, sister Peggy (Randy), many aunts, uncles and cousins, and beloved pet cat Skufty.
He was predeceased by his father Robert (Bob) Munroe (2009); his grandparents, Alda (née Stratton) and Robert Munroe, and David and Setta Eggertson; and his aunts, Donna Peterson and Marjorie Buckinger.
Ian grew up on the family farm near Warren, Manitoba. He attended school in Warren and then graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Diploma in Agriculture. He worked as a crop insurance inspector and as a commercial fisherman on Lake Manitoba - where he assisted Ron Larson.
For much of his life, Ian worked alongside his brother and father on the family mixed farm. For 25 years he worked for Safeway and Sobeys, and he was currently working as a farm inspector for the Organic Producers Association of Manitoba. Recently he was busy developing an auction sale site on his acreage.
Ian loved books and was an avid reader, as well as a hunter, golfer, and competitive curler in his earlier years. He loved fishing in the summer and ice fishing with his friend John Lamport in the winter. He loved nature and enjoyed many evenings sitting in his yard with a fire going, Pat by his side, gazing at the stars, observing the planes as they flew over, and listening to the sounds of nature. He enjoyed target shooting with friends and would carefully show his cousins' children how to use a gun safely. He had a talent for sketching nature as he saw it, and he was planning to write a book on his life and experiences.
Funeral service and celebration of Ian's life will take place on Thursday, April 18, at 10:30 a.m., at the Warren United Church.
Interment following the service will be at the Warren Municipal Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ian's memory may be sent to the Fort Whyte Centre (204-989-8355) for environmental education and animal rehabilitation, or to a charity of your choice.

I was saddened to learn of Ian’s passing. I got to meet him at the the transportation office on King Edward during the amalgamation process of Sobeys and Safeway merger, always a gentleman. His kind ways were comforting to me during the somewhat trying times we both endured. His quiet soft spoken words were reassuring to me in my constant barrage of endless questions, he will be missed by many people he left his mark on. I did not know Ian that long but he will always be with me in spirit. My sincere condolences to his friends and family. Sandy and I only met Ian a few times while we visited Patricia and Ian in Warren. Ian was very proud to show us around their farm property, his mother’s historic home and his brother Jamie’s farm. Patricia and Ian visited us in Nanaimo, BC only a month ago where we celebrated his 56th birthday. We spent two good days together where we got to know Ian much better. We connected very well with Ian and we looked forward to spending more time with him and Patricia this summer. Ian certainly did not care to be in the spotlight nor to make a fuss over him. He was a gracious, sincere, easy going gentleman who will be sorely missed. With heavy hearts, we offer our condolences to Patricia, Margaret and family. - Posted by: Barry and Sandy Hurrie (Barry is a second cousin to Patricia ) on: Apr 16, 2019

My dear cousin Ian was one of the best. I have many fond memories of visiting the farm often as a child. Later as an adult, I visited nearly every summer. As a youngster, we would explore the farm, usually lead by Ian. He and my sister, Vivian Buckinger Gysler, were the instigators for many adventures; “crick-hoppers”, washing and then putting a kitten outside in the winter to freeze dry (like our Nana Munroe did with sheets - the kitten survived), playing in the hayloft when we weren’t supposed to, etc. I wasn’t quite as adventurous as those two so I’m sure there are other schemes in which I wasn’t involved. As an adult, I loved sitting on the farmhouse veranda late into the night with Ian, swapping stories and memories, and solving all of the world’s problems. He was such a knowledgeable and kind person with a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. I loved this wonderful, special man and will forever miss him. - Posted by: Liz Buckinger Johnson (Cousin (Marjorie Munroe Buckinger’s daughter)) on: Apr 16, 2019

Ian and his Uncle John Buckinger enjoyed many long talks and jokes whenever they got together. Ian was the most hospitable and generous person. I guess the best way I would describe Ian; he was smart, funny, loved his family. He was very loyal to both family & friends. He, like his uncle John was an honorable man and will be greatly missed by all he touched. Stay safe my friend. Donna Buckinger - Posted by: Donna Buckinger (Aunt by Marriage) on: Apr 16, 2019
