JEAN DOREEN KANE
Mom will forever be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her seven children, Shirley Kane, Jim Kane, David Kane (Nancy), Tanice Kane (Peter), Tom Kane (Bruce), Bill Kane (Janice), and Minda Johnson (Patrick). Mom was blessed with nine grandchildren, Sharlene Wakaluk, Bradley Suchy, Sharon Suchy, Chloe Pososki (Jo), Graeme Kostelnyk (Kat), Kristopher Johnson (Brittney), Rowan Johnson, Karin Nowak-Bailey (Troy), David Nowak (Teri); and seven great-grandchildren, Breanne, Erin, Kaylee, Torren, Emma, Brett and Tyler. Also left to mourn her passing is her sister Cathy Telford in Porcupine Plain, SK, together with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Terry (2004); son-in-law Barry Shilliday; sisters, Audrey Piasta, Elsie Birtles, Flora Erratt, and infant sister Fiona Mason.
Mom was born March 22, 1924 in Star City, SK to Scottish Homesteaders Thomas and Margaret Mason, and together with her four close-knit sisters, grew up on the Sasakatchewan farmstead. She was always extremely proud of her Scottish heritage, and at the age of 13, Mom and her family returned to Scotland for several years, returning to Canada when the Second World War broke out. This was a tumultuous time and Mom, along with her sister Flora, worked as 'Bomb Girls' manufacturing munitions at a factory in Ontario. She settled in Winnipeg after the war, and worked at the St. Charles Country Club with her sister Audrey, and then later at the Manitoba Club. Mom and Dad met in 1953 and so began their life together.
Mom and Dad retired at Clearwater Lake, (The Pas) in 1989, enjoying many happy years at the Lake, living only three doors down from Minda and Pat, along with the grandchildren. Dad passed in 2004, and Mom returned to Winnipeg a year later. Each of us hold fond memories of Clearwater and will forever treasure all the great times we had.
Mom was a strong-willed, feisty, independent individual who adored and was immensely proud of her family. She was a hardworking wife, homemaker and loving mother and leaves us with many great memories to cherish.
A very special thank you to the staff of River East Personal Care Home for their excellent and loving care given to Mom during her time there.
Rest in Peace Mom. You will be
sorely missed and forever loved.
