MARILYN ALANNA TAYLOR
(nee KARPYSHIN)
April 5, 1954 - April 17, 2019
She was predeceased by her father Steve, and brother Richard. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband Joe (of 37 years), daughters, Ashley and Stephanie, son Rick, daughter-in-law Ashley, grandchildren, Jordan and Ty, her mother Maxine, in-laws, Peggy and Rob, brothers, Steven (Linda) and Joel (Lisa), sisters, Sherry (Craig), Liza (Sandy) and Deborah, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Marilyn was born in Winnipeg and graduated from Garden City Collegiate. She furthered her education at the University of Manitoba and University of North Dakota, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Science.
She took great pride and joy in her professional life, championed many causes and worked to affect change to improve the lives and opportunities for all children inclusively. Beginning with a career as a teacher of the blind/visually impaired in Grand Forks in 1979, she then moved back to Winnipeg and worked for the Department of Education for the Province of Manitoba as a Consultant for the Blind/Visually Impaired. She continued on and progressed to Consultant and then Coordinator of the Student Services Unit. She was especially proud of her work establishing U.R.I.S. protocols, her recognition by the Manitoba Council for Exceptional Children for outstanding achievement for leadership and S.S.A.A.M. for her honorary life membership. She retired on September 22, 2015 after 34 years of public service.
It would be impossible to catalogue all of Marilyn's passions. She was a lifelong reader, thinker, teacher, and learner. She prided herself on being an excellent mother, wife and family member. The "Divine M" was known for her vibrant sense of style, her exuberant laugh, her passion for flowers and gardening, love of decorating, cooking, baking, family game nights, travelling, British entertainment, shop-til-you-drop weekends, and being a stalwart supporter of her husband's musical hobby.
The family would like to thank the treatment staff at CancerCare Manitoba, the Palliative Care Team, and a special thanks to Dr. Liu, Dr. Kowaluk, and Dr. Harwood-Jones.
A memorial service to celebrate Marilyn's life will take place on Monday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or a children's charity of your choice.

Marilyn will be greatly missed by her colleagues in the field. Her passion for her work and for life in general was a gift she shared with many of us. Her optimism, sense of humor and wit made her presence cause for celebration at any meeting or conference she attended. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Donald Teel (Colleague) on: Apr 23, 2019
