GLADYS ANN OKABE
(nee BAGNALL)

It is with profound sadness on April 19, 2019, that we convey the passing of a
beautiful woman after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the Grace Hospice.
Parents, Eric and Thankful Bagnall; and brother Jamie predeceased Gladys. Her
husband Ken/Bob; children Bob (Janet),
Randy (Dawn), Angela (Jim), David
(Christina); and her grandchildren Stephanie (Paul), Derek, Michelle, Steven, Miranda, Sydnie, Kailey, Jaedyn and Nicholas, will
lovingly remember her.
Gladys was born in Charlottetown, PEI, on February 14, 1943 and moved to Winnipeg at the age of 11 years old. She was a loving wife to Ken for 59 years and devoted herself to raising her four children. Gladys/Mom was a vibrant and independent woman who was
valued in her home and community. She spent countless hours volunteering and holding
executive positions with all of her interests, which included curling, golf, church and the Canadian Cancer Society.
Travelling was a big part of Mom's life whether it was camping or visiting
destinations around the world. You could
always count on Mom to bring home
treasures from all of her trips for her family. She took pride in her children and
grandchildren and loved to celebrate their achievements. She will be remembered for her strength of character and loving and
caring ways.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Grace Hospice, Riverview and to the countless others who cared for mom. As well, to her many close friends who were there from the beginning and end of her
journey.
Celebration of Life service will take place on Monday, April 29, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Gladys was an attractive, charming, happy young gal with a bright white signature smile whenever you met her. Although I wasn't a close a friend as many, I was happy to see her share her life with husband Ken. Condolences to the family and close friends. • I was so very sorry to hear of Gladys' passing. As teenagers, my twin sister Debra and I babysat for the Okabes. I remember Gladys as a kind and beautiful woman, who kept a beautiful home. Unfortunately, Debra and I were unable to attend Gladys' Celebration of Life today as Debra is recovering from surgery on Friday.
