WILFRED LORNE LEVERTON
1924 - 2019

On April 19 Wilf passed away on his own terms, in a room filled with sunshine, laughter and the love of his family.
Wilf was cracking jokes until the end. He was a brave man and a trailblazer.
Wilf was devoted to his loving wife of 65 years, Thelma, who died in 2011. Together they shared a lifetime of love, laughter and adventure. Road trips across Canada and the US, fun times at the lake playing cards with family and friends, (Dad was never the lucky one), caring for many cats and dogs, fishing and always having to bait Thelmas's hook, take off the many fish she caught and then clean them. Later, teaching his grandchildren how to fish, sharing stories about growing up in the north end of Winnipeg and his service to his country during the Second World War. Wilf had and shared a wealth of knowledge. He was an early recycler and the original "MacGyver"!
A very proud man, Wilf lived independently, was always respectful and considerate of others and had a "Smile and a Nod" for everyone!
He is survived by his loving family: daughter, Gayle (Charlotte), sisters, Hildy and Jan, grandchildren, Colin (Nikki), Chad (Heather) and Cara (Michael) and grandchildren, Bryce, Mina, James, Olivia and Elizabeth. Wilfred was predeceased by his wife Thelma, son Gary, and nephew Jeffrey.
Special Thanks to Wilf's friends and neighbours at the Kiwanis Chateau, (especially Tess), the Kiwanis Kat Klub, and his committed home care team who helped him to live at home, the caring Seven Oaks Sub Acute team, the dedicated M.A.I.D team and the wonderful volunteers from Dying with Dignity.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, April 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery).
If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 would be appreciated.
Wilf has blessed this earth for 94 years and it's time for him to bless the stars.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Very sorry for the loss of Wilfred. Trying to get in touch with Hildy. We were roommates at Bible college and trying to reconnect . Hoping she is doing well. We had a blast as young women in the dorms at Multnomah. I think I wrote her about was 3-4 years ago. - Posted by: Glenis Howard Trammell (Roommate of sister Hildy at Multnomah School of the Bible ) on: Jan 09, 2021

  • So sorry to hear about your dad, Gayle and Charlotte. May the many happy memories you have comfort you now and in the future! Berna - Posted by: Berna Klassen (Friend) on: Apr 29, 2019
