ELIZABETH (LIZ) KEIR BOWMAN
(nee HAMILTON)

Liz passed away quietly at home on April 15, 2019, aged 82 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Ken in 2011 and her parents, Nancy and Duncan.
She will be missed by her children, David (Cathy), Scott (Claudia), Cathy Anderson (Gerry) and Lisa (Brian Scarlata), her grandchildren, Alex (Nicole), Sara (Colin Westmoreland), Andrew and Sawyer, sister-in-law Nora Bowman (Alan Rae) and many nieces and nephews.
Liz grew up in Winnipeg and attended Riverbend School and Gordon Bell High School. In school she developed a love of dance and musical theater. She married Ken in 1959. The family moved to Dieppe Road in Charleswood in 1961. She was a stay at home mom for many years, then worked as a school secretary in the Assiniboine South Division. In her younger days Liz volunteered at Roblin Park Community Club, the RWB, and more recently Winnipeg Harvest. She played tennis and badminton and loved swimming, having learned as a young girl at Victoria Beach. She was an active and avid member of the senior synchro swim group at the St. James Y. She enjoyed the ballet, opera, reading, spending time at the cottage at Victoria Beach, and travelling to warmer places in the winter.
Liz's favourite colour was purple, which she wore frequently.
Liz moved to the Westhaven in 2014 which became a source of new friends and
activities. Sadly, 2018 saw her face the
challenges of cancer which she fought
bravely and quietly, in keeping with her
character, and rarely complained about the effects of the illness. She will be remembered for her kind heart and beautiful smile.
The family would like to thank Dr. Inglis, Dr. Harris and their nursing assistants as well as the nurses at Palliative Care Manitoba for their kind and excellent care over the past 11 months. We also thank the residents and staff at the Westhaven for making Liz part of their family.
In keeping with her wishes there will be no service and a private family interment will take place at a later date.
If you wish, donations may be made to D'Arcy's ARC or Winnipeg Harvest, Liz would love that.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Although I did not know Aunt Liz in her later life, the memories I have of her when I was young are still very vivid in my memory. Ken and Liz were always a fun couple to spend time with, even though they were a generation ahead of us. I will always remember Aunt Liz as a kind, fun-loving and vivacious lady, who I found to be good company and someone upon whom I could count to lend an interested and kind ear, when I had a story to tell, or point of view to share. I am sorry that she has left us, and I grieve her loss along with her family, whom I have not been in contact with for far too long. My love to you all, with fondest remembrances of a remarkable lady. Tim - Posted by: Tim campbell (Nephew) on: May 22, 2019
