My deepest condolences to you Jo-ann and your Family for the loss of your dear Brother, Marten. Although I had not seen Marten for many years, I still have happy memories of our friendship when we were young and later at school together. My heart and prayers go out to you at this sad time. - Posted by: Bonnie Runzer (Budd) Victoria BC (friend) on: May 06, 2019

So many memories of Marten from those good old days at the Sun. Marten's kindnesses to me were many. I remember when he accompanied me to buy a car because he was afraid that, as a woman buying a car alone, I would otherwise get ripped off. And he always used to tease that if I didn't get my column in on time, he would fill that space with an article about how to brush your dog's teeth. Marten, you were a dear friend and colleague, and you will be very much missed. - Posted by: Naomi Lakritz (Colleague) on: May 06, 2019

R.I.P. Marten. Always a welcoming smile...a good man. - Posted by: Wendy Friesen (Former co-worker and friend) on: May 06, 2019

Working with Marten over many years at the Sun as a colleague and as a dear friend was always a joy. He was truly a great guy to be around and I'm sure everyone who crossed paths with him will be deeply saddened by his passing. When you worked at the Sun it was like a big family and although separated by time and circumstance that closeness never seems fade. I haven't seen Marten for many years but friendships forged at the Sun endure and I am confident the dozens and dozens of people who knew him at the paper will remember him fondly and laugh and shed a tear when they learn the news. So long Marten! - Posted by: Norman George McCurdy (colleague) on: May 06, 2019
