SISTER ROLLANDE LAVALLEE

Peacefully, on May 2, 2019, at Concordia Hospital, Sister Rollande Lavallée was called to her Father's Home, at the age of 93 years, surrounded by the love and prayers of her Sisters, the Grey Nuns.
Born in St. Joseph, Manitoba, her parents were Jean Lavallée and Clémentine Daneault. Rollande is the third of a family of five children. As a young woman, working at St. Boniface Hospital, Rollande was touched by the dedication and spirit of compassion of the Grey Nuns. Rollande responded to the Lord's call inviting her to walk in the footsteps as a daughter of Marguerite d'Youville. She entered the Noviciate on August 5, 1945.
After her religious profession, Sister Rollande dedicated herself in the service of young children in Lebret, Saskatchewan, Chesterfield Inlet, at the St. Norbert's Convent, Berens River and Roseau Reserve, near Letellier.
In 1974, having completed studies in Clinical Pastoral Education, it was at St. Boniface General Hospital that she ministered her compassionate care to the sick and dying. Leaving Winnipeg in 1986, Rollande continued this ministry of love and dedication at Notre-Dame Hospital in Montreal. Returning to Manitoba, Rollande's spirit of compassion and love continued at Taché Nursing Centre, this time ministering to the residents and their families. As a pleasant and efficient worker, she remained always available to the needs of the patients and in her quiet manner, she was able to gain the patient's confidence and understanding.
Woman of faith and prayer as well as her love for music, Rollande was a faithful member of the choir at St. Boniface Cathedral. Being a skillful worker, her health having declined, she chose to retire and continue to help the needy by creating beautiful pieces of sewing and knitting.
Besides her religious community, Sister Rollande leaves to mourn nieces and nephews, as well as a relative and special friend May Trager. Members of her family have all already joined our Lord and Savior.
The funeral celebration of the Resurrection will take place on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Despins Residence at 151 Despins Street. Prayers and viewing will be at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral at 1:30 p.m. Father Arthur Massé., O.M.I. will be the presider.
The Grey Nun Community would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Resident Despins Health Care Staff, who cared and supported Sr. Rollande in her life's journey to the end.
