GREGORY DEAN KAATZ
Greg was born on August 8, 1968 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Tina Payjack and Gregory Goetz. On October 16, 1993, he married Cynthia Kaatz (Matthes), and together they raised a son, Aaron and daughter, Madison.
Greg worked as a Police Officer for the Winnipeg Police Service for 25 years. In retirement he became an avid hockey coach, enjoying his time in and around the rinks and the game of hockey. Baseball, Star Wars, and Marvel comics were some of his interests. He loved going down south to Mexico to enjoy the sun and simplicity. One of his greatest joys was spending his time with his family and helping out wherever they needed it. Greg was known for his kind and generous spirit.
Greg was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by, and will be greatly missed by, Cynthia, his loving wife of 25 years; his two children, Aaron and Madison; his brothers, Jon and Chris; his sisters, Melody and Tammy; his stepfather Don, stepmother Karen, and countless others from his family and extended family.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg.

Gregory was the oldest of our generation... he was always first at everything and did it with bigot and tenacity. He brought a glow into the room and gave us all hope. I think I speak for all of us when I say we all looked up to him and were very proud of him. The pain is undeniable and I write this with a heavy heart for Cindy, Aaron and Madison. I know it will be a longer road without him but I’m sure he’s watching over you beaming with pride over what you all accomplished as a family. We lost a special person who was fun-loving and courageous and amazing with children. He accomplished so much in such a short time. I will miss him and this is the one thing I never wanted to see him do first. I love you all and I hope you find a way to live through the good memories he left you with. He is in a better place than this world he tried so hard to change, and he is with mom now. Peace and love - Posted by: John (Brother) on: May 09, 2019

Greg (“Kaatzy”) was one of the finest persons that I ever had the honour and the privilege of working alongside. Intelligent, humble, courageous, compassionate, strong as a bull, loyal, a guy who always had your back. He was an immensely talented individual who was an equally outstanding teammate. His sense of humour would leave you exhausted from laughing so hard. Everything and all that Greg was in his chosen occupation, he was indeed an even better Man. As much as he enjoyed his job it was immediately clear to anyone who knew Greg that his Family came first and above all else. He was intensely proud of them and you could clearly see the great love that he had for his Family. Thanks Greg for being an awesome role model and Friend to so many us. Until we meet again, Brother. - Posted by: Angie & Banny (Friends) on: May 08, 2019
