LOUISE LORETTE SOUBRY
(nee FORTIER)
May 5, 1932 - May 4, 2019
Peacefully on May 4, 2019, Mom passed away at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg after demonstrating unbelievable resilience and determination while facing many significant health challenges for the past several years. Regardless of the challenges she faced, she continually showed grace, strength and determination. Her strong Catholic faith and the resolve to never give up, were always the driving forces in her life, qualities that serve as examples to her children and grandchildren.
Mom was preceded by our dad, Paul Soubry; her parents, Albert and Blanche Fortier; and her sister, Patricia Lefebvre.
She is survived by her six children and 15 grandchildren: Mark (Sonia Dufault), Cedric and Nicolas; Greg (Judy), Remy and Claire; Ann Lovell (John), Marina, Victoria and JP; Paul (Christine), Paul III and Madeline; Marina McGlenen (Stephen), Nicole and Katie; and Veronique Soubry Kossuth (Guy), Reginald, Gabrielle, Brigitte and Gregory.
She is survived as well by her brothers, Ronald and Peter Fortier, and many in-laws, John-Pierre and Monique Soubry, Nanette Stainier, Marina and Leon Van de Berg and Marc and Claire Soubry. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and many friends, especially a lifelong friendship with Monique Rousseau.
Mom was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec and became a Registered Nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Montreal. It was through nursing that she met our dad. Mom dedicated her life to being a loving, supporting wife and mother and grandmother. Her family was her source of great joy and pride. She also gave back to her community through her many efforts as a board member for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, St. Boniface Hospital, CancerCare and the Manitoba Nurses Association. Mom loved the sunshine, and the memory of her sitting on her deck this past Easter will be one forever remembered.
Bonnemaman, as she was known in our family, never missed an opportunity to support her grandchildren near and far through their many sporting events, school and artistic accomplishments and activities. Sunday suppers and special occasions at her house were a great sense of pride and memories for those living close by. Mom opened her heart and home to everyone, and she was happiest there surrounded by her family and her things. For those living away, Bonnemaman's visits were cherished moments together and special bonds were formed that will last on.
We would like to thank the many physicians, and healthcare professionals over the past eight years who helped Mom. We are also grateful to the homecare staff who provided care that allowed Mom to stay in the home she loved.
Our family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital, in particular Dr. George and Dr. St. Godard who provided care and compassion to her in her final days.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Brebeuf Parish, 1707 John Brebeuf Place.
In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, Diabetes Canada or a charity of your choice.

We met Louise and Paul early in our son's courtship of their daughter Veronique and had unfortunately too few occasions together. We have never lived nearby but have always felt close through our mutual love of and pride in our grandchildren Reg, Gigi, Brigi and Greg. Louise was always good company and very caring of all those around her. We send our sincerest sympathy to all her family and know that she will be very much missed in their lives. Sincerely Pippa and Selwyn. - Posted by: Pippa and Selwyn Kossuth (Mother and Father of Guy Kossuth, husband to Veronique Soubry) on: May 14, 2019
