CHARLES MORLEY WELBANKS
May 15, 1949 - May 16, 2019
He was predeceased by his parents, George Albert and Laura Marjorie Welbanks (nee Lynds) and is survived by his brother George who lives in Langley, BC. Charles grew up in Elmwood and attended Humber College in Toronto. He worked as a millwright-mechanic at CN Rail in Winnipeg, VIA Rail in Toronto, and at the Michelin Tire plant in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Although he struggled with dyslexia as a child and schizophrenia throughout his life, he was an excellent mechanic, a skillful artist, an aspiring songwriter, a voracious reader and a lifelong Norton motorcycle enthusiast. For the past nine years, he resided at the Friendly Villa retirement home in Eriksdale.
At the request of the family, cremation has taken place with a private interment of the urn in the family plot at Chapel Lawn Cemetery.

We were friends of Charles while he lived in Lunenburg. We had many fun times in his company. Our condolences to his family. RIP Charlie. - Posted by: Deb, Chuck Taylor (Friends ) on: Jun 29, 2019

I've known Charlie since we were in the late teen years and at one point he became the WashTub player for the Incandescant Saffron Jug Band which I was a singer/guitarist in. We both went on wildly divergent bents after that with Charlie winding up on the East coast and I on the West but as Winnipeggers we both wound up back here and our friendship re-established itself and continues. "Good Time" Charlie...you will be missed... - Posted by: Bobby Stahr (Friend for life.) on: May 25, 2019

Charlie was a voracious reader and able to talk about many subjects. Intensely curious, he was always tinkering, experimenting and building. He managed to pack more adventures and experiences in his life than most. He loved riding his Commando but I believe he enjoyed having it in pieces just as much. I hope you have smooth roads to ride your Norton and a cozy (but messy) workshop to tear it down in. You will never be forgotten by those who knew you. - Posted by: LA Rolley (friend) on: May 24, 2019

I only got to meet Charlie once... He was so interesting, and shared a wealth of Family history and artifacts with us! I'm so glad that my daughter's got to meet their great grand father before he passed. - Posted by: Rachel Bow (Biological grand daughter in-law) on: May 23, 2019

Charles will be missed. He was very well read and was a fixture at his local library. I always enjoyed hearing about the latest interesting books he had been reading. He had a difficult life, but usually managed to be positive and upbeat. I am only sorry that, because we lived so far away for most of the past 30 years, we only got to see him once a year during our annual visit to Winnipeg. Gone but not forgotten. - Posted by: Anne Lavack (Sister-in-law) on: May 18, 2019
