It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Alexander Mitchell at his home on May 17, 2019 at the age of 72 years, due to Cancer.
He was predeceased by his parents, and Berry and Bobby, Dorothy and Agnes and son Kelly Mitchell.
Dennis is survived by sisters, Jean Steinhouse and Linda (Doug) and brothers, Billy and Lenand Mitchell. He will be sadly missed by his companion Linda K. and family, and many friends that knew him.
Dennis was a professor at Red River College where he taught pipe fitting for 40 plus years. Dennis taught until June, 2018 and also worked and maintained close relationships with many co-workers.
Dennis lifelong passion was fishing, with his companion, Linda K. and little buddy Tegan Funk and many friends. He spent all his spare time on the lake fishing or ice fishing.

We would like to thank Stonewall Hospital and Doctor Graham for the excellent care of Dennis.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Dennis and I worked together for Vipond many years ago as fire protection installers, sprinkler fitters. Working at Unicity Mall Winnipeg, and Dryden, Adikokan, Ontario, just to name a few. 1976 Dennis left the trade to teach at Red River Community College. We had many laughs tipping cold beers, playing shuffleboard, fishing, in the old days. The hands of time wait for no man. God bless until we meet again. - Posted by: Garry Palahitski (Co-Worker, friend ) on: May 07, 2022

  • So sad to see Dennis passed when I was googling his name. Dennis was my instructor and later the journey man when I was an apprentice working with him when he wasn't teaching. I spent a lot of time with Dennis during those months working with him. He was an amazing teacher, confidant, and friend. We spent months working 10 hour days and making drives to PLP to work. I've missed him all these years, but could never find him online. My life is better for knowing Dennis, and he will always be one of the most important influences in my life. - Posted by: Josh Krongold (Mentee) on: Jan 21, 2021

  • We are going to miss you terribly. Thank you for the memories, for the fun , for the fishing, for the lessons. Thank you for always being there for me. Dennis loved kids, he loved teaching them. Especially teaching them to fish. You taught all 3 of my kids and I only wish we had came fishing more !! Dennis was extremely smart. Could answer jeopardy questions, one after another. He also had great humor. He kept his humor till the end . My sister said to him , oh your screen is frozen on your iPad, where he answered I know I keep putting a heating blanket on it . I will never forget when a fishing hook hooked in your thumb , and we had to clip it and pull it thru. A natural teacher who was always helping people, especially if they were in school. 2 days before passing , planning the path for another student. Dennis loved to spend time on the lake , and in honour of you may we all go fishing and catch the best one !! I will miss you and love you and I will never forget you PaPa Dennis . Love val. - Posted by: Val Andrew Tyler Landon Ainslie (Step family ) on: May 24, 2019
