RUTH VUST
(nee SMITH)
May 20, 1937 - May 16, 2019
At a very early age, Ruth became aware of her sinful condition through the quickening power of God the Holy Spirit and through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ became a child of God. Ruth completed high school in The Pas, MB, and shortly after became a student at Winnipeg Bible College.
After graduating Winnipeg Bible College, she began training at St. Boniface School of Nursing and graduated with the class of 63A. She spent 27 and one half years nursing at Ste. Rose General Hospital. In 1989, she graduated from Brandon University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 1992, she received a Certificate of Health Care Administration Acute Care, from the University of Saskatchewan. Later on in 1992, she retired, in order to be near her mother who was in a nursing home in Winnipeg, and in the last months of her mother's life she cared for her own home, with the help of her sister Violet.
In 1998, she married Frank Vust, and they made their home in Winnipeg. In August of 2014, she became a patient in St. Boniface Hospital, there receiving the best of care by compassionate staff. In February 2016, she was transferred to Action Marguerite, St. Boniface and remained there until her death. It is difficult to find words to fully express the kind, loving, thoughtful care she was given there. Truly a very well managed facility.
She was predeceased by her father and mother; her sisters, June, Florence, Della Rose, (in infancy), Violet, and one brother James. Also in the Geertsema family, her first husband Adolph; infant son Garth Leslie; brother-in-law Alex (Herta). In the Vust family, sister-in-law Martha Hoyes (Keith); brother-in-law Albert Moman; sisters-in-law, Selma and Joyce; brothers-in-law, Harry and Gilbert.
She is survived by her husband Frank; stepsons, David and Mark. Her brothers, Roy (Betty), Paul (Daisy), Matthew and John (Beverly); and her two sisters, Mary (Jim) and Martha (Bud). She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Grace Baptist Church, Manitoba Highway 5 (PR 480), Ochre River, R0L 1K0 on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. Interment at Turtle River Cemetery will follow the church service.
On Friday, May 24, 2019, a Celebration of Life will take place at Grant Memorial Baptist Church, 877 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, starting at 10:30 a.m.
