RICHARD H. TAYLOR

After a long life well-lived, Richard Taylor died peacefully on May 21, 2019, at the age of 96.
He will be forever remembered and lovingly missed by his wife, Joyce, of 72 years; daughters, Jill Taylor-Brown (Allen Brown), Jackie McGowan (Ross); son Jay Taylor; granddaughters, Heather McGowan (Brett Geoffrey), Sara McGowan (Richard Bolton); grandsons, Ian McGowan (Petra), Michael Brown (Max Jiang Brown), Joshua Brown; great-granddaughter Emerson; great-grandsons, Dawson, Landon, and Jack; and sister Gill Davey and family in Australia.
He was predeceased by his eldest daughter Janet Taylor (John Lyons) in 2014.
Born in Reading, England, Richard and Joyce came to Canada with Janet, their baby daughter, in 1949. They raised their family in Riverview, and after Richard retired as President of Conviron, in 1982 they took to the land, spending five years living in Hadashville until they moved to Victoria, BC. After 31 years of adventures on Vancouver Island, and around the world, they returned to Winnipeg last year to be close to family.
Richard was multi-talented. He was a Royal Air Force pilot, engineer, musician, artist, carpenter, inventor and designer, successful businessman, gardener, world traveller, and cryptic crossword solver. He was brilliant. As a Centennial project, he built a Mirror Dinghy, that the family cherishes and continues to sail to this day. He excelled in sports in school and only gave up tennis at the age of 82. He thrived on change and new challenges. He had a wry sense of humour, was full of integrity, and despite all his talents, was also full of humility. He will be so missed.
We would like to thank the home care workers, the nurses and doctor from the Palliative Care program who helped us keep him at home for as long as possible, and the staff at Riverview Palliative Care Unit who cared for him in his final days.
