ROBERTA CAROLINE RAFTER
(nee FAULKNER)
May 6, 1927 - May 25, 2019
Roberta was born in the West End of Winnipeg to parents, George and Caroline (Carrie) Faulkner. She grew up in Winnipeg and attended Greenway and General Wolfe schools and graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. She worked at Great-West Life from 1944 to 1953 and again from 1980 to 1989. She also worked for Normark Ltd. from 1974 to 1980. She enjoyed those times very much.
Roberta loved music and song and sang in her school choir and then in the St. Matthews Anglican Church choir for 21 years, followed by 15 more years at St. Chad's Anglican Church. She was active in various ACW and other church groups including St. Philips in Norwood. She loved knitting, baking and visiting grandchildren, family and friends.
Roberta was predeceased by her beloved husband Charlie in 2012, her parents and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
She leaves behind, with wonderful memories, her sister Vi Davis of Vancouver, her son Gregg (Brenda) of Richmond, daughter Carolyn (Martyn Daly) of Winnipeg and five wonderful grandchildren who were the light of her life, Kellen (Shirin) and Devan (Genevieve) of Winnipeg and Jameson, Madison and Alexandra of Richmond. She was also able to spend time with two very special great-grandsons, Harrison and Kian of Winnipeg. Many nieces and nephews will also miss her.
Roberta and Charlie bought a cottage at Brereton Lake in 1962 where lifelong memories were made with special friends the Stewarts and the Lees, enjoying BBQs, special occasions, boating and swimming. Roberta was never happier than when she was at the lake with her special friends and her family.
There will be a service of remembrance on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue. A reception will follow. There will be a private family service of interment of ashes.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all the wonderful staff at the Victoria and St. Boniface Hospitals. Also, a very special thank you to Dr. Brian Sharkey for his kindness, compassion, care and prayers.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, the Winnipeg Library or a charity of your choice.
"Until we meet again.
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand."

To the entire Rafter family, I am so sorry for your loss. I grew up two doors down at Brereton and both Mr. & Mrs. Rafter were always so friendly and ready to chat anytime we saw them, and they never got mad when we cut through their property leaving a path when we were teenagers! My fondest memory of them is when my daughter Emma was a year old, Mr. Rafter walked over with a bag of old beach toys; plastic shovels, pails, sailing boats, etc. for her. It was the sweetest thing and I think of it, and them, often. - Posted by: Patti Fernie (nee Malette) (Lake neighbours) on: Jun 04, 2019

My grandma was such a special lady and a fantastic role model for everyone around her. I hope one day to be as smart, strong, kind, and giving as she was. I will always cherish the memories of our time together and am so grateful to have known and loved her. - Posted by: Madison Rafter (Granddaughter ) on: May 30, 2019

Sorry for your loss Caroline and family. I see that you had so much in common with your mother Caroline. You both had great singing voices and enjoyed a career at Great West Life. You have so many wonderful memories I know. - Posted by: Laurie McKenzie-tann (Old school friend of Caroline) on: May 30, 2019

A very, very special lady. We'll miss her dearly. What made her so special will live on in Gregg and Carolyn, providing great comfort for the many people who loved Mom so much. Rest in peace Mom, and give Dad our very best. - Posted by: Martyn Daly (Son-in-law) on: May 29, 2019

Auntie Roberta was such a strong, caring and kind person. Growing up, I always felt so welcome in her and Uncle Charlie's home. I will miss her wonderful spirit and stories. Conversations on the phone we had from afar felt as though we were in the same room. It was wonderful to see her Christmas of 2018--I will cherish our last visit. I still have her blueberry cheesecake recipe, once given to my mom after our family made a visit to their cottage at the lake, and may make it this weekend as a toast to a very remarkable woman! All our love, thoughts and prayers to Carolyn, Gregg and their families. - Posted by: Cheryl Rafter (Niece) on: May 29, 2019
