RONALD WILLIAM TAYLOR
June 27, 1944 - May 29, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ronald William Taylor, our beloved son, father and cousin.
Ron will be lovingly remembered by his mother Jean Whyddon Taylor, his son Gordon Taylor (Nicolette Jaman), his cousins, Aileen, Heather, Joanne and Robert and their families. He was predeceased by his father Ronald Alexander Taylor, his uncle William (Bill) Taylor and aunt Mary Ann Taylor.
Ron had three main loves in life...his family, friends and sports. He was an accomplished hockey and softball player. He also loved the outdoors and spent many summers at the family cottage in Balsam Bay, fishing in Red Lake, and golfing. Ron was also seen at hundreds of Gord's hockey, volleyball and baseball games, even coaching the Kirkfield-Westwood hockey team for one season. Ron developed many friendships through his involvement in sports and enjoyed meeting the boys for breakfast or heading down to the track for the day. Due to a head injury, Ron was forced to leave a promising hockey career. He then focussed on his summer pastime - fastball. The pinnacle of his fastball career was in 1967 when he placed second in the world behind the United States in Oklahoma City while playing for Molsons Canadians. He later spent many years in the Western Major fastball league playing for the Winnipeg Colonels, the Brandon Merchants and the Edmonton Monarchs, where he was a several time all star. After fastball Ronald took to Slow Pitch softball. This time he got some revenge on the United States by scoring the winning run to win the World Slow Pitch Championship. Ron's teams have been inducted to the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame and Museum on at least four occasions.
A private family interment at Brookside Cemetery is planned for a later date.
If so desired, donations can be made in Ron's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.

  • Oh how we idealized our older cousin Ronnie. When we were little the time spent with him was so special. Handsome and cool with fun girlfriends and hot cars and shiny shoes. He never said much but we new he loved us. Wonderful memories of Carol and Gord and later fun times in Kirkland Lake with Gloria. He loved his Auntie Mary Ann and Uncle Bill and he was with us when we lost them. Steve and I were blessed to have visited with Ron Sr. and Ronnie along with Auntie Jean and Gord in October on our way out west. It is so hard to believe that now both Ron's are gone. We will miss knowing you are there and hold our memories in our hearts always. - Posted by: Aileen Taylor (First cousin) on: Jun 10, 2019
