JOHN (JACK) GRANT THOMAS
June 14, 1935 May 24, 2019
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
(Psalm 34:18)
Jack received his post-secondary education at the University of Manitoba, graduating as a Civil Engineer in 1960, then earning his Master of Science in Community Planning in 1961. As a student, and later as a young husband and father, Jack was active in community affairs, participating in the establishment of a United Church congregation in Crestview Park (then St. James-Assiniboia), where the family resided until 1975. Jack's volunteerism was also integral to the development of the road system for the Clytie Bay community at Shoal Lake in Ontario, where the family had a summer cottage. In 1975, the family relocated to Edmonton, Alberta, where Jack served the provincial government as Assistant Deputy Minister of Municipal Affairs, Planning Division, and as the Vice-Chairman of the Alberta Planning Board. In 1994, Jack and Alice retired to their summer cottage at Clytie Bay, which became their permanent home, until the passing of Alice in 2007.
The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the Winnipeg Health Region Home Care staff for the professional care and attention accorded their loved one during this last year.
The funeral service for Jack will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Friday, August 23, 2019, at 2:00 p.m.

We offer our most sincere condolences to John's immediate family, his sisters and sister-in-law. John (Jack) was a very great friend during our University years and there after. We were very close as Jack and I were only 2 years apart and our birthdays were 2 days apart. Jack always contributed to our study group at University. After graduation we and our families enjoyed our stay in Crestview Park. Doreen and I with our family had to leave Manitoba in 1964 as I was following construction jobs. However we always touched bases with Jack and family whenever we came back to Manitoba, Alberta and Kenora area. Sincerely, Ken and Doreen Fergusson Kelowna BC l - Posted by: Ken and Doreen Fergusson (Friend) on: Jun 10, 2019

Jack was classmate in Civil Engineering at U of M. Always remember Jack with wonderful personality and great sense of humour. He was having some health problems in 2010 but made sure he attended one of our dinners during our 50th reunion at Fort Garry Hotel. Will make sure we toast Jack next year when we celebrate our 60th.
