MARILYN ANNE DOREEN WATERMAN
1946 - 2019

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother on June 17, 2019, at Seven Oaks Hospital, at the age of 72 years.
She was predeceased by her parents, Thorsteinn and Ebba Thorsteinson, and her husband (divorced) William Waterman. She was still mourning the passing of her great friend and companion for life adventures, Judy Eyolfson.
Marilyn will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her three children; Diana Waterman, Wendy Freeman (Paul) and Ken Waterman (Amy); her grandchildren who she loved dearly: Daryl, Craig, Benjamin and Alexandra Freeman, Brynn and Will Waterman; her brother Barry Thorsteinson (Wanda) and her nephews, Erik, Stefan, and Nels; along with many extended family members and many, many friends.
Marilyn grew up in Oak Point and graduated from St. Laurent before going to Teacher's College. She married William Waterman and they raised their children in Winnipeg. She worked at the Winnipeg School Division as a clerk and kept in contact with all of her work friends in her retirement.
Marilyn enjoyed knitting and spinning and loved making knitted items for family and friends. She enjoyed keeping in contact with her cousins and extended family here and in Iceland. She was active in the community -volunteering for Icelandic and Swedish/ Scandinavian events, NDP campaigns, Seven Oaks Hospital, knitting and spinning groups. She enjoyed local Arts attending concerts with her friends, reading and discussing local authors, and supporting local musicians. She enjoyed her Saturday morning ladies' group. She spoke often and lovingly about all of her friends and family.
We would like to thank the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their kindness and care during a difficult time.
Please join us for a memorial service on Monday, June 24, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). Interment 3:00 p.m. at Brookside Cemetery.

  • I came to know Marilyn while I was a substitute teacher and she was the substitute clerk. She was always so kind, professional and patient. When she retired she was greatly missed by many. - Posted by: Helen Coish (Teacher in Winnipeg School Division) on: Jun 24, 2019

  • My heartfelt sympathy to Marilyn’s dear family. It was with shock and sadness to hear of Marilyn’s passing. As one of the Saturday morning ladies group, a long time church friend and WSD working friend, I will miss Marilyn very much. Her laughter, her humour and wit brought our group so much happiness. She had so many ideas on which book to read next. May God bless you Marilyn and may God continue to keep his arms around you. with much affection Linda Stannard - Posted by: Linda Stannard (Friend) on: Jun 24, 2019

  • I met Marilyn on two Cuba friendship trips, led by Rev. Janet Walker of Churchill Park United Church. Marilyn was a wonderful companion to many people on these trips. She was very interested in learning about the Cuban culture. She also loved to see what the local shops had to offer! Last year when I broke my hip, Marilyn gave me rides to some appointments. To me and many others, Marilyn was generous with her time. Thanks Marilyn for being a joyful companion on the journey of life. God be with you. I’ll miss her Facebook posts which is how we kept in touch. Rest In Peace Marilyn. Sincere condolences to the family. - Posted by: Karen Rice (Collin) (Friend and former colleague) on: Jun 23, 2019

  • I was very sorry to hear about Marilyn. She was someone that left a lasting impression on so many because she had all the qualities you'd love to encounter in the people you meet and friends you make. They were all there within this lovely humorous caring bright lady. I am glad our paths crossed years ago... it was a pleasure knowing her. Condolences to her family and friends. - Posted by: Mary Anne Shore (Friend) on: Jun 22, 2019
