Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • Mr. Fast taught me Math and Computer Science in the early days of computers. (1981-82) He not only taught me how to write and debug computer code, he also taught me how to think in a logical, sequential manner. He was one of my favourite teachers, and I quoted him in my Grade 12 yearbook quote: "There's always a better way!" (JR Fast). My condolences to you and all his family. He touched so many lives in his teaching career. Most you will never hear from. On their behalf, I thank you for sharing him with us. - Posted by: Tom Kruesel (Former student) on: Aug 05, 2021

  • So sorry. I meant to look you up in hope of a chat. I was the guy who walked in red eyed and usually had my head down due to working late at numerous jobs. You always took me to task. Best early life lesson was your take on purchase and maintenance of a car. The math was spot on and I've used the methodology for all my endeavors. School environment was never my thing and I left early as you knew. But you always made it fun. You always told it like it was...THANKS! - Posted by: Jake Neudorf (Former student ) on: Jan 21, 2020

  • Rest in peace Mr. Fast. You were an awesome teacher. I remember being terrified of doing computer science, and you made it fun. I spent a lot of time after class in there chatting about life, and I sure avoided his hallway if I got to school late as he wouldn't hesitate to thoroughly embarrass me (deservedly so) in front of everyone! - Posted by: Liz Zubek (Student) on: Jul 22, 2019

  • Mr. Fast was my first computer science teacher in grade 10 back in 1981. He was one of the best and our group still talk about him with such fond and fun memories. My love to his family. - Posted by: Cameron Switzer (Former student) on: Jul 04, 2019

  • I'm really sorry to hear about Mr. Fast's passing. He was a favourite teacher of mine. I had him for Computer Science grades 10 through 12, 1991-1994. I'm glad I was able to see him at the REC reunion, and tell him how much I appreciated him. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Andrea Mantler (Former student ) on: Jul 02, 2019

  • I was lucky to be a computer science student of Mr. Fast's for all 3 years of high school and a math student of his in grade 11. He is the teacher who had the greatest influence on my life. I am sorry to hear of his passing. - Posted by: Sheryl (Student) on: Jul 02, 2019
