DAN THACKER
Danny Roy Thacker was born at the Grace Hospital January 5, 1942. He met his future wife Linda nine days later in that same hospital nursery.
They reconnected in 1958, married in 1962 and their family grew to include daughters, Tracy Elizabeth (Gary) and Wendy (Murray); sons, Jim (Rachelle) and Ken; and then grandchildren, Dayne (Jessica), Blake (Mel), Alex and Matthew; and foster grandchildren, Jaqualyn and Rochelle. Dan's siblings, Dwight and Brenda (Gary); are also mourning his passing.
Dan joined the Winnipeg Fire Department in 1967 and eventually rose to the rank of Captain of Fire Hall Number 1. The dedication, courage and strong sense of duty he demonstrated gained him the respect and admiration of his fellow firefighters, as well as his nickname "Captain Dan".
Dan lived large, dreamed big and fearlessly undertook the most daunting projects, his vast skillset, dogged determination and unexplainable mastery of whatever was needed always on display and ready to be taught. From homes to boats to cars and trailers, he instinctively rebuilt, redesigned and improved everything he touched. His enthusiasm and confidence, combined with his work ethic, could accomplish anything.
"Dan had a heart of Gold."
"He would give you the shirt off his back." "He would do anything for those he loved."
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday July 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the FireFighters Burn Fund, or the charity of your choice.

So sorry for your loss Aunty Linda (and family). I remember fondly my wife and kids being out on the lake with you and Uncle Danny on the big ship, Captain at the helm, and you with the charts. Thanks for the great day! So sad that we won't be able to make it happen again. Thanks for the great chats, a memorable day on the water, and the wonderful story of the yacht being reborn!
