VERNA VIOLA STORSETH
(nee JORGENSON)
August 3, 1932 - June 27, 2019

With deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of our mom, grandma and great-grandma on June 27 at St. Boniface Hospital. She was surrounded by her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory her five children, Brenda (Edwin), Greg (Kim), Bruce (Jackie), Betty Ann (Dan) and Marie (Glen); grandchildren, Tyler (Stephanie), Brendin (Allison), Mathew, Danielle, Tammy and Sara; great-grandchildren, Hudson, Charlotte, Lincoln and Ruby, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband of 51 years Helgi, her parents, Hubert and Marie, and her many brothers and sisters.
Mom was born on August 3, 1932. She was raised in Whitemouth, MB where she met and married Helgi, and they moved to Winnipeg to raise their family. Mom was a full time homemaker providing a warm and loving home. She ensured that on the last day of school the car was packed and we were off to Bird Lake for the summer, not returning till the first day of school. Bird Lake was Mom's favourite place to be, where she loved spending time with family and friends, and enjoyed fishing and blueberry picking. Mom and Dad spent 12 years in St. Albert, AB where they made many dear friends. Mom took up golf in Alberta, and achieved two holes in one. She continued curling, and with her team, won the Northern Alberta Seniors Championship. Mom and Dad had countless golf adventures in Canada and the US touring in their motor home. When Dad retired they moved back to Winnipeg to be with their grandchildren.
Mom enjoyed her last few years at Middlechurch where she received great care with compassion, we are very grateful. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, particularly the teams in Emergency, Cath Lab and the Acute Cardiac Care Unit.
A memorial for Mom will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home on Thursday, July 4 at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Dear Auntie Verna, Wayne Folster (your nephew, my cousin) just shared the news that you have gone to heaven to be with your family and friends who left before you. I was always so thrilled that you always remembered me as we didn't see one another often. I'll be sure to look for you when my turn comes. I love you and please say hi to my Mum, Kay Folster. Rest in Peace dear lady. xoxo - Posted by: Dianne Renick (Folster) (Family) on: Jul 11, 2019

  • We are thinking of your family at this time and offer our deepest condolences. She was a special lady and so full of life when we saw her at the cottage (her happy place). We will miss her. - Posted by: Guenthers (Friends) on: Jul 06, 2019

  • My sincere condolences. I will always remember Auntie Verna with a big heart, easy smile, great sense of humor, very competitive & loving her family. Some of my fondest memories are from Bird Lake. She seemed to love the chaos of having all her family at the cabin! The first time I brought my husband up to Winnipeg to meet 'the family' we made a trip out to Bird Lake. If I remember correctly, Greg & Bruce decided to take him to a party to meet some of their neighbors. Let's just say they had a REALLY good time. We all came back to the cabin & my husband stayed up with Auntie Verna. I came out in the middle of the night finding that she had prepared him stew & they had become best of friends. She always welcomed anyone into her home & her heart. I can just imagine the homecoming party Uncle Helgi and the rest of her family are having for her in heaven. Rest in peace Auntie Verna, you will be missed & remembered with love. - Posted by: Kimberley Meek (Niece) on: Jul 01, 2019

  • Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families as you celebrate your mom's life. We are blessed to have known such a wonderful person. I can see her sitting at the kitchen table with her hat still on, cleaning blueberries and bragging how big they are. We will miss her presence at Bird lake and will cherish those fond memories. With condolences. - Posted by: Fahey's (Friends) on: Jun 29, 2019
