JERZY (GEORGE) ROMAN BIBIK

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jerzy on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at the age of 79 years. He was surrounded by family as he peacefully passed away.
Jerzy is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary, children, Renata and Michelle (Jason), grandchildren, Kiera and Cameron, Celina (Severin), Autumn, Bianca and Erik, brother Andrzej (Janie), and many nieces and nephews.
Jerzy was predeceased by his parents, Konstanty and Teofilia Bibik, his precious son Mark, and his sister Barbara.
Jerzy was born in Ugty, Poland on November 1, 1939. Upon the invitation of his father his family immigrated to Canada in 1957, and eventually settled in Winnipeg, MB in 1961. He achieved his Masters of Education through the University of Manitoba. He taught math and science for 29 years.
Jerzy advocated and tirelessly volunteered for new immigrants coming to Canada from Poland. He translated for the legal system, was a member of the Manitoba Polish Combatants Association and a board member of the Canadian Polish Congress Manitoba Division.
He was a member of Sokol Polish Folk Ensemble - which was his greatest passion for 57 years and where he met the love of his life Mary. In latter years he became known as "the nester" of the choir. You would always find Jerzy leading everyone in a chorus of Sto Lat at any function! Jerzy sang in many Manitoba Opera productions as a chorus member.
He always found time to attend his children and grandchildren's activities. He loved to cook his Polish specialties. The family has lost "the greatest" videographer and narrator.
A special thank you to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital Cardiac Unit.
Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5, 2019 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 4588 Roblin Blvd., with Msgr. Maurice Comeault officiating. Interment will take place following the service at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB. Reception to follow at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • Mr Bibik taught math at West St Paul School. I was one of his students during the 1969/1970 academic year. He really knew his stuff. That is why I never forgot him. He made an impression on me. His teacher colleague was Linda Paul. Both were passionate educators. Thank you, Mr Bibik for being The Best - Posted by: Darcy Smela (Former Student) on: Jun 19, 2022

  • A couple days ago, a few friends and I were talking about people who positively influenced our lives. Without hesitation, Mr. Bibik immediately popped to mind. Through high school, I was introverted and insecure but I felt safe to come out of my shell in Mr. Bibik's classroom. When talking to me, he'd look right at me rather than beyond me as many of the others seemed to do. Mr. Bibik truly knew his students. He was a treasure and I'm so grateful that our paths crossed. I hope he had the joyful life he deserved. :) - Posted by: Kathy Asseiro (Stefanchuk) (Student) on: Jan 31, 2021

  • Dear Mary, I just heard today of Jerzy's passing. I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences and prayers are with you and your family. I will always remember with fond memories, the good times I had when I was a member at the Polish Sokol Choir. I always thought that your husband was a very kind, caring and respectfull man. May he rest in eternal peace in the arms of the Lord God our Father, and may God give you peace and strength in your time of sorrow. - Posted by: Genevieve Leclerc (Co-member from Polish Sokol Choir many years ago & friend) on: Jul 17, 2019

  • Mr. Bibik was my Math & Science teacher in West St. Paul School many years ago. An excellent teacher with high standards for his students. Had the pleasure of meeting up with him at a junior high school reunion back in the late 90's. Thanks for the memories Mr. Bibik! Condolences to his family. - Posted by: Lisa Chrusch (Weidacher) (Former Student) on: Jul 04, 2019

  • I had the pleasure of having Mr. Bibik as my home room teacher in West St. Paul. Think he drove a VW bug. We students probably drove him bonkers but he took it in stride. My condolences to his family. Thanks for the memories. - Posted by: Conrad Solypa (Former student) on: Jul 03, 2019

  • I am sorry to hear of George's passing. We worked together for 9 years. George was a big help to me when we had students recently arriving from Poland. He had high expectations of students. George and I often sparred on philosophical/educational issues, but often just agreed to disagree. He was a passionate educator. He was a colleague and a friend during our time together. My sincere condolences to the family. - Posted by: Linda Carol Paul (Colleague) on: Jul 03, 2019
