STEVE BILYK

Suddenly on June 29, 2019, at Seven Oaks Hospital, Steve Bilyk, aged 96 years old of Winnipeg, passed away with family at his side.
Steve was born February 23, 1923, in Poland, and came to Winnipeg at the age of three years old with his parents in search of a better life.
Steve grew up on a farm in Meleb, MB where he attended school until he found work in the logging camps and into the construction industry.
Steve married Kay Kwasniak July 28, 1951, and raised two children together.
Eventually Steve started Bilyk Builders Ltd. and had the opportunity to mentor his son Gerald and grandson Derek into the industry. Steve built many houses in Winnipeg and built many friendships and relationships along the way.
Steve enjoyed fishing and camping with friends and family. Steve also enjoyed meeting up with friends at Garden City Mall or A & W to catch up over a cup of coffee. After Kay's illness Steve became her primary caregiver for many years and continued to visit daily upon her move to the care home.
Left to cherish Steve's memory: daughter Diane (Ray), son Gerald; grandchildren, Derek (Nancy), Ryan (Cassy) and Kelly (Dudley); great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Stefanie, Leiland, Kaydence and Kianna, and siblings, Ollie Melnyk and Myrt Bilyk, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Steve was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Kay Bilyk, his parents, Anton and Eugenia Bilyk, siblings, Michael Bilyk, Walter Bilyk and Mary Nemis.
A special thank you to the staff of Maples Personal Care Home for their care of Dad during his stay there.
Rest in peace Dad, Grandpa (Grand-pooh-bah), Great-Grandpa, you will be missed and always loved.
As per Dad's wishes there will not be a formal funeral service, however a viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. prior to cremation. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one's choice.

  • So sorry for your loss to Gerald and family. Mr.B (as we called him) was a sweetheart. From the time we purchased our house, to helping to do some renovations with us, always there to help. Norm would go to the open houses that Mr. B. had just to talk and visit with him. Will always remember him calling me Mrs. B and that is how Mr. B. came to be. We have know Gerald since high school, he attended our wedding (which he doesn't remember). but that is life. TAKE CARE ALL. - Posted by: Bonnie and Norm Burzuik (Friends) on: Jul 12, 2019

  • Sorry to hear of your Dad's passing Gerald - I know how much your parents' mean't to you - you were a great son to your mom and dad. - Posted by: Chris Bartlett (Friend of Gerald) on: Jul 08, 2019

  • Our sincere condolences on the passing of Mr Bilyk. He built our home on Durward street in 1982 and we are still living in it today. We get many comments on how well built our home is especially the 16” centers on the hand made trusses! He was a wonderful and honest man and had quite the sense of humor. He became a friend during the process and was available for questions at any time and even dropped by when we were renovating the kitchen in 2012! - Posted by: Bert and Barb Campbell (Friend) on: Jul 06, 2019
