October 20, 1988 - June 30, 2019
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wonderful, kind, fun-spirited son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, uncle and friend, Matthew. At the age of 30, and after a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer, Matthew passed away peacefully June 30, 2019, with his family by his side.
Left to mourn are his parents, Claude and Suzie, his sister Bernadette, Memère Eveline, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Matthew was raised in La Salle, MB and graduated from Collège St. Norbert Collegiate in 2006, where he found his true passion for theatre. He later graduated with a B.A. majoring in theatre from the University of Manitoba in 2012. From there he worked very hard and became an amazing Stage Manager. Matthew lived life to the fullest through his love for family, friends, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and of course Theatre and the Winnipeg Jets! Matthew was an honest, loving, genuine person who cared so much for anyone who crossed his path. Matthew touched the lives of so many and will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, humour, smiles and most importantly his hugs. Matthew brought so much joy and happiness to us all.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Park and Mayah from CancerCare, Dr. Christiansen and the staff on 5E at St. Boniface Hospital, as well as Dr. Woelk and the Palliative Care team from Boundary Trails Health Centre, for their amazing care and compassion for Matthew.
A Funeral Mass will be held at La Salle St. Hyacinthe Church, Monday, July 15, 2019. Eulogy will begin at 6:30 p.m. with Mass to follow. A reception will be held after the Mass at the Caisse Community Centre.
In lieu of flowers, please direct your generosity to any of the following charities: Manitoba Theatre for Young People, Prairie Theatre Exchange, True North Youth Foundation, or The Children's Hospital Foundation.

The Little Opera Company joins with those who mourn the loss, but celebrate the life, of Matthew Lagacé. We were blessed to have the benefit of his keen organizational skills and wry humour grace our rehearsals and performances last spring when we undertook one of our most challenging operas the company has ever produced, La tragédie de Carmen. The success of this production was in large part due to Matthew’s fastidious attention to detail and his ability to wrangle the cast and crew. Never have we seen so detailed a SM score and attendance sheet! He truly was Stage Manager extraordinaire! We believed him to have a brilliant career ahead, but alas, Winnipeg has lost a great artist. We are grateful for the time we had and will always remember him fondly. - Posted by: Robert Campbell, Spencer Duncanson (The Little Opera Company) on: Jul 14, 2019

Deepest sympathy Claude and Suzie and family on the loss of your son and brother. I have watched your children from up with pictures when Suzie and I were working together at HSC. Take care of each other. - Posted by: Edna Edwards (Friend) on: Jul 06, 2019
