EVELYN ESTHER ZIMMERMAN

January 17, 1928 - July 5, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Evelyn, at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home on Friday, July 5, 2019.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Brian (Marilyn) and Bruce (Teresa); granddaughters, Kayleen and Brittany; sisters, Linda Herzog, Gladys Verch (Reinhold) and Marjorie Harwart; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Edward; her parents, Gustav and Emma Harwart; grandson Christopher; sisters and brothers-in-law, Edna Yaeger (Albert), Violet Drewlo (Arnold) and Clara Cesmystruk (Peter); and brother-in-law Ed Herzog.
Evelyn was born on January 17, 1928 in Winnipeg. She grew up on a farm near Moosehorn, Manitoba. She married Edward Zimmerman on August 8, 1953 and they lived in Winnipeg, where they raised their two sons.
Evelyn worked at a sewing factory when her sons were young, and later she joined the Winnipeg School Division as a teacher's aide. She worked at Wellington School for many years until her retirement in June 1989.
Evelyn enjoyed cooking and baking, and she hosted many large family gatherings at her home. Many summers were spent camping with her family at Toniata and later near Gimli. She and her husband Eddie spent a number of winters at Apache Junction, Arizona after their retirement.
We would like to thank the nurses and caregivers at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home for their personal attention and excellent care. We would also like to thank all the family members and friends who visited or phoned Evelyn during the last few years. A special thank you to Aunt Marj for her selfless support and care of Mom.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB.
