SIMONE YVONNE MORIN
(née BREAULT)
Simone was born to parents, Georges and Arzelia on July 16, 1925 in Morris, MB (Aubigny). She grew up as the second youngest of four girls and attended St. Norbert Convent. Her parents were Market Gardeners and Simone started her love of gardening early by selling the family's vegetables at the market.
In 1942, she took a position in hospitality with The Canadian National Railway which enabled her to travel Western Canada where she later settled in Jasper, AB. She spent many years there until eventually returning home to Winnipeg, MB. Later in life Simone owned a restaurant called the Sunset Inn in White Mud Falls, MB. She spent several years running the restaurant and spending her evenings and weekends with family and friends at her beloved cottage in Silver Falls, MB.
Simone was blessed with three children, Charles (Bryan), Gisele (Gilles) and Cheryl. Simone had quite the knack for business. She knew a good deal when she saw it and purchased her forever home in the heart of Winnipeg, a home that remains in the family today. She spent 52 glorious years in her home tending to her breathtaking flower beds and impressive garden. Her yard was the envy of the neighbourhood and you could often find her chatting with neighbours on the front walk showing them the fruits of her labour. Simone had a love for fine things, and she quickly developed a passion for antique furniture and had a good eye for one of kind pieces.
Simone spent many years travelling the world and had a great love for exotic destinations.
At the age of 62, she took on yet another venture and became a member of the Manitoba Square and Round Dance Federation. She quickly became a pillar in her dancing community and was never without a dance partner. Simone was an impressive dancer and danced her days away until the age of 87. On the dance floor, she was graceful, never missed a beat and was always the last one to leave the floor. She really lived up to the quote, "Dance like no one is watching".
Simone is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Morin and Gisele Avanthay; her son Charles Morin; her six grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Jeanne Breault, Antoinette Pakay and Audrey Rogers; her parents, Georges and Arzelia.
