LILLI IRMGARD PEITSCH
(nee BARON)
April 25, 1949 - July 19, 2019
Lilli leaves to mourn her husband Nelson; children, Jeff (Lorraine) and Lisa Sullivan (Steve); grandchildren, Jeff, Jonathan, Leah, Matthew Peitsch; and Michael, Karsten and Lexi Sullivan. She will also be lovingly remembered by her sisters, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Lilli was born on April 25, 1949 in Buhren, Germany and moved to Canada at the age of four. She was educated and continued to reside in Winnipeg until her passing. She took great pride in raising her children, volunteering and periodically fundraising for local initiatives.
She had many interests through the years including, crocheting, macramé, pottery and ceramics. However, it was the love of cooking and baking that gave her the most joy. She was very talented, catering anniversaries and weddings including preparing beautiful wedding cakes.
Lilli enjoyed holidays and occasions with family. She marked each one with many types of baked treats, because quality and variety were always deemed important. Remarkable homemade Christmas baking; hand-crafted gingerbread house projects with each grandchild; special birthday cakes, tarts, cookies and homemade chocolates were but a few ways to celebrate with those she loved.
Lilli's door was always open to her many friends and family and remarkably there was always an outstanding homemade bowl of soup, hot meal and dessert, even if dropping in unexpectedly.
She enjoyed travel to destinations in Canada, US, Germany and winter hotspots, but "there was no place like home". If not in the kitchen, she would be found curled up with a book or watching her favourite shows. She spent a lifetime of giving of herself and putting those around her first. If you asked, Lilli always had sage advice. She was kind but direct, with a strength of character and resilience seldom seen. Even in her last days as she became increasingly ill, her primary concern was for those she was about to leave.
Lilli asked that her profound gratitude be expressed for the final time to her husband Nelson for his ongoing devotion in providing increasingly intensive care throughout her illness. She also wished to express a big thank you to her dear friend Nijole Pestrak who offered care and comfort beyond anything a friend could expect.
In keeping with Lilli's wishes, no formal service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the 8th Floor Palliative Care Unit at the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, C1026-409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6.
