WALTER WALLIS STEINER
September 4, 1937 - February 20, 2019

Wallis was the oldest son of Walter and Catherine Steiner and born near Marchwell, SK. He had five siblings, Doreen, Lennart, Katherine, Alda and Margaret and together, they lived on the family farm. The year that Wallis started Langenburg High School, he joined the 557 Cadet Squadron. After graduation in 1955, Wallis moved to Winnipeg and took a job at Century Motors in their parts department on Main Street. He met his wife Ellen at a local coffee shop and the two married in January of 1963. Later that year, daughter Robyn was born followed by Karen in 1966.
Wallis worked 38 plus years in Customer Service for Air Canada, more particularly, on "the ramp." It was a job he loved resulting in many wonderful friendships. Wallis actively participated in bowling, curling, fishing, hunting, playing golf and travelling wherever Air Canada could take him. Wallis was passionate about volunteer work for countless organizations, especially Ducks Unlimited and organizing the Air Canada Children's Christmas Party. Upon retirement, he organized "Wallie's Luncheon" every November for Air Canada retirees contacting each person individually. Wallis managed three gardens and would take extra produce to local foodbanks. He was a master of the grill, a connoisseur of homecrafted beer and wine, pickle and salsa maker extraordinaire, and an incredibly gifted dancer.
His pride and joy were daughters, Robyn and Karen, sons-in-law, Roger Lyon and Kris Hutton, and grandsons, Seth, Erik and Justin of California and Sebastian, Everest, Dominic and Xavier of Vancouver. Family and friends were what Wallis cherished the most. He also leaves behind his beloved wife Ellen of 56 years.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Wednesday, August 7 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Glen Eden Funeral Home followed by an interment of ashes and a reception.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Wally & I worked at Air Canada for a good number of years. Wally was always friendly & helpful. He installed a new skylight on my roof & wouldn't accept any compensation, until I offered him a bottle of rum. Over the years, anytime our paths crossed, I would remind Wally that the skylight never leaked. God bless you Wally. - Posted by: Ron MacKenzie (Colleague ) on: Aug 06, 2019
