PATRICIA (PAT) MORTON
May 29, 1930 - August 5, 2019

An end to a great era. Wife, mother, grandmother, super mumma, nurse, hospital administrator and community leader, Patricia (Pat) Anne Morton passed away peacefully August 5, 2019, at the age of 89.
Pat was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert (Bob) Morton in August 2007, but not before they shared 55 years of marriage. Gone before her, and many too soon, were her parents, Allan and Lena Lawrie; sister Mary Beighton; brothers, Keith, Grant and John Stratton; son-in-law Doug Mutual; and great-granddaughter Nizana.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Roberta (Garry) Merke, Cathy (Bill) Litchfield, Darcy (Kim) Morton, Patty Mutual, James (Denise) Morton and April Morton (François Salmon). A great joy to her as grandma and super mumma were her 14 grandchildren: Tanya, Jocelyn (Harris), Aaron (Lauren), Jennifer (Shaun), Alison (Tyler), Becky (Corey), Shauna (Jason), Heather, Kyle (Kyra), Chrissy (Russell), Trevor (Chantal), Meghan (Tyler), Michael and Sasha, and her 13 great-grandchildren: Sophie, Hannah, Molly, Naomi, Davis, Parker, Aiden, Reid, Zane, Zi-Anne, Ayda, Emmeline and Liam. Pat is also survived by sister Barbara Slutchuk and brother David Stratton.
Born May 29, 1930 in Carman, Manitoba, Pat was shaped by early hardships, losing her father when she was three and her mother when she was 17. With determination, she followed her passion to become a nurse. As a student nurse, she met the love of her life, Bob, and together they built a life, raising their six children in Seven Sisters Falls.
With few role models to emulate, Pat became a working mother, continuing to nurse while serving the community. She studied hospital administration by correspondence, eventually becoming the Whitemouth Hospital Administrator. A career highlight was overseeing the construction of the new hospital.
In retirement, Pat and Bob moved to Whitemouth, enjoying golf and the amenities of a larger town. Pat volunteered with the Regional Health Authority and Ross United Church, led babysitting and senior exercise classes, and sewed for friends and family. In 1999, Pat received the Judge J. M. George Memorial Award, "recognizing her voluntary activities and accomplishments which demonstrated her outstanding leadership and wisdom in the area of health care in Manitoba".
In 2006, with Bob's health failing, Pat and Bob moved to Winnipeg to be near family. Since January 2018, Pat resided at Riverview Health Centre; we are grateful for the kind and caring 3W staff.
A private service will be held.
Should you wish to honour Pat's memory, please feel free to donate to Diabetes Canada or to the Whitemouth District Health Centre Foundation Inc., Box 37, Whitemouth, MB R0E 2G0.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I just read about the loss of your Super Mumma. I am so sorry for your loss and while I didn’t know your Mom well, what I did know about her, I totally admired. She was such a good role model in our community and when I heard her express an opinion, it was well weighed, succinctly delivered, and often delivered with humour. - Posted by: Marilyn Joyal (nee Zoldy) (Admirer) on: Aug 27, 2019

  • Our sincere sympathy to the Morton Family on the loss of a great matriarch and loved one. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. The Nychuk Family - Posted by: Myrcel & Mary Ann Nychuk (Friend) on: Aug 27, 2019

  • The Simpson family would like to extend our condolences to the Morton family over the passing of Pat. Our family grew up across the back lane from the Morton's during the 1960s at the Seven Sisters townsite. Whenever Mum had concerns over her children's ailments she would simply call Pat and despite having the busiest household in town she would always pop over in short order and lend her professional opinion. This was of great comfort to Mum and we would like to thank Pat for the compassion she showed our family and no doubt the entire town. • My condolences to the Morton Family. Brother-in-law John and I spent many hours golfing with Bob and Pat over the years and had many good times. Think of you at this time. Sincerely, Craig Ross - Stonewall - Posted by: Craig Ross (Friend ) on: Aug 10, 2019
