LAURA JEAN THIESSEN
(nee POTTAGE)
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 66 years, John Thiessen, children, Brad (Wendy), Doug (Carina) and Diane (Rob), grandchildren, Megan (Jeff), Laura (Robert), Kaitlin (Trevor), Colin, Gabriella, Roland, Randy (Judi), Devin and Hailey, great-grandchildren, Walter, Louisa and Owen. Jean was predeceased by her parents and brother Albert and is survived by her brother George.
Jean was born at Misericordia Hospital in 1932 and was a true "West End" girl, attending Wellington School, General Wolfe School and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute. After graduating high school, Jean went to Normal School to obtain her Teaching Certificate. She taught in Winnipeg School Division #1 until becoming a full-time Mom. When the kids were old enough, she returned to teaching. After retiring, she spent 10 years volunteering at schools.
Her family, faith and friends were very important to her and she has remained close with many friends, especially the members of the UCW. An avid bridge player, she always enjoyed getting together with her Wednesday and Thursday bridge club members for cards and conversation.
While in high school, she was approached about becoming a pen pal with a girl from England. That pen pal, Edith Ridsdale, became a lifelong friend.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Prairie Spirit United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, Tuesday, August 13 at 11:00 a.m.
The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Hospital and Deer Lodge Centre for all the wonderful care.
