EVANGELINE TOM CONSTANTINE
June 1, 1930 - August 7, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother on August 7, 2019 at age 89 years.
She leaves to mourn her beloved children, Ty (Arlene), Stephany (Michelle), Tom, Stephen (Carolyn) and Marcia Cholakis, grandson Nick Adair, sister Anna (C.J.), brother Gus Constantine and many family and friends. Our mother was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Tom, brothers, Lambert, Emanuel, Tom and Spiro Constantine.
Mom was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama and a proud southern lady. In 1951 mother married John E. Cholakis and moved up to Winnipeg, to start a family. She loved everything about Winnipeg and embraced it with gusto.
In 1968 she began her career in the health care profession as a candy-striper at the Grace Hospital, in 1971 she received her LPN license and devoted 38 years as a LPN on Cornish 2 North at the Misericordia Hospital. After retirement, mother went back to the Grace Hospital where she started her career and volunteered for eight years.
During her retirement, mother travelled around the world, enjoyed her ballroom dancing, and cherished her loving family and friends.
The family wishes to thank the Grace Hospital, the palliative care and the home care personnel for comforting our mother throughout her illness. Special thank you to our mother's four angel friends who spent countless hours caring for our mother.
Her children were everything to her and we will miss her greatly.
A funeral service is on Wednesday, August 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). Pallbearers, Stephen Cholakis, Tom Cholakis, Ernest Chris Cholakis, Nick Adair and Mark Langstaff.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • One year ago today, I lost a mother, friend and someone I can giggle with about life. I didn’t realize the impact of losing mom until a few months later, when I felt the need to call her and this brought me to tears. I know time heals, but it sure hurts. For those who knew mom ( ie: Angie or Vang) and could make her laugh, she would always embrace your friendship, right till the end. I made a promise to mom the night before her passing, that I would remain strong and continue to overcome my challenges. My mom was truly, a pillar of strength. throughout her life. I miss mom and dad even more now. Your baby girl Marcia - Posted by: Marcia Cholakis (Daughter ) on: Aug 07, 2020

  • I miss you so much mother. Losing you is the worse feeling ever! Watching how this horrible disease robbed me of your love was extremely painful. I hold on to your strengths and compassion for those in need and whom deeply care. I LOVE YOU MOTHER!! - Posted by: Stephany (Daughter) on: Sep 15, 2019

  • Our condolences to the family. Evangeline was a wonderful and kind person and volunteer. We truly enjoyed working with her. She was amazing in helping others as a volunteer in one of our patient care units and at our front entrance as a guide. We will miss her! - Posted by: Tanya Gadd (Volunteer Resources, Grace Hospital) on: Aug 15, 2019

  • Those we hold closest to our hearts never truly leave us. They live on in the kindness they have shared and the love they brought into our lives. I have so many memories of Vangie that make me smile from my days of babysitting to her kindness towards my Mother and Father as well as her care as my Nurse recovering form an appendectomy, how fortunate was I! An incredibly caring and consummate professional with a giant heart and a true friend to all that knew her! Forever in our hearts! May her memory be eternal. - Posted by: Andrea Buzunis (Family Friend) on: Aug 10, 2019
