SANDRA FRIESEN
(nee JOSS)
November 24, 1942 - August 6, 2019

We are sad to say that on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, Sandy, at the age of 76, passed away suddenly at Concordia Hospital after a lengthy battle with arthritis and subsequent health issues.
Sandy was predeceased by her parents, Alexander Joss and Anne Joss and sister-in-law Maureen Joss.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her loving and faithful husband Cornie, son Robert (Deanna), granddaughter Tobi, grandson Carter, brother Paul and nephews, Mark, Trevor (Keri) and Daniel (Brandy), along with great-nephews, Mitchell and Miles and great-nieces, Payton and Ashton. Sandy will also be missed by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sandy was born in Winnipeg on November 24, 1942. She worked for the Winnipeg Free Press where she met her husband Cornie and they were married for 50 years. After leaving the Free Press, she became a certified Ceramics Instructor, and taught ceramics in a number of shops and for herself, which she did until the arthritis advanced to the point where she could no longer teach. Sandy also worked with Costco where she organized the in store food demos. This allowed her to meet new people everyday which she enjoyed. Sandy was a very giving person and her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, meant the world to her. Sandy was a person who left her mark wherever she went and she was not afraid to speak her mind. Sandy lived life to the fullest. She had a way of making people laugh in any situation and was a real character. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital for the care that she received during the four months she was there and all her family and friends who kept her entertained.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Society of Manitoba.
There will be a casual celebration for Sandy at Glen Eden Funeral Home at 4477 Main St. in West St. Paul on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • My Aunt was one the most fun-loving and original people who could ever cross paths with. There are countless memories I have. All backed by the Soundtrack of three of her favorite songs, We're Here For A Good Time, My Way and Mambo #5 (A little bit of Sandra in the Sun). Rest easy Sweet Lady. God Bless Uncle Cornie, Robert, Deanna and Family. - Posted by: Mark Joss (Nephew) on: Aug 19, 2019

  • I’m sad to see this. I’m so so sorry for your loss - Sandy was an amazing woman. She was my mother’s boss at Costco for many years. Funny lady always made me laugh. I owe her the world and want say thank you for what you did for me. August 4, 1995 my mom had just left for a flight to Calgary. I was what I thought I was 8 months pregnant with my first child aged 22. Well going back home with dad and sister my water broke. Got back to my house talked to doc and said I should come in. I then called Maxine (mom's friend and Sandy’s ) and there were my two heroes - sandy and Maxine - coming to my rescue to take me to the hospital garbage bags for me to sit on lol. Well they got me there and stayed till I had my daughter Tunyia. I just want to say thank you to Sandy and Maxine for being there and getting me there ok. You guys were always there for me thank you and love you to the moon and back. Please rest in eternal peace Sandy 💔❤️ - Posted by: Charlene Wood (Friend of Sandy) on: Aug 18, 2019

  • I met Sandy through my friends Bernie & Gerri when they suggested I join their “elite” ceramic group. We all shared lots of laughs. My colour choices were not always the best and often Sandy would mumble something & then smirk. That was usually my queue to change colours. Sandy always finished off our pieces beautifully by painting the eyes. RIP Sandy. My condolences to Sandy’s family and all who knew and loved her. - Posted by: Lisa Rajotte (Friend ) on: Aug 17, 2019

  • So very sorry to hear the news of Sandy passing. She was always someone that I enjoyed spending time with. I have a lot of fond memories , at the ceramic classes and especially our trip to Grand Forks . Gerri,Lisa and myself never laughed so much as the time we spend with Sandy there. So sorry for your loss I’m sure she will be greatly missed. Condolences to the family. - Posted by: Bernadette Tigg (Friend) on: Aug 17, 2019
