BRENDA LYLE SMITH
October 9, 1940 - August 16, 2019
Left to mourn is her loving and faithful husband of 57 years Jim; her children, Graham, Rand and Allison Powell (Rick); her grandchildren, Jesse, Val and Greg; her sister Janie Patterson (Keith); and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Family meant everything to her. Brenda met her husband working at Investors Group and before long they were in love and happily married in 1962. The family spent 20 years camping at Rushing River, ON and then spent 26 years at the cabin in Grand Beach. Growing up, Brenda went to Kelvin High school.
She spent a lot of time looking after her handicapped sister Nancy.
She had many hobbies including baking, reading, sewing, Tai Chi, crocheting, word puzzles and she was very creative with ceramics, needlepoint and many other projects. She loved to travel and took many trips to Cuba, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Brenda loved dragonflies.
A Celebration of Life gathering will take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 3:00 p.m.
We would like to thank the staff at Grace Hospital for the comfort they provided.

I just found out today, September 13th, 2020, that Brenda passed away. Brenda was a best friend to my mother, Della Kacsmar. For a long period of time, they did everything together. When my first son was born, Brenda gave me a chest of drawers for him. It is still in my house today. She was a beautiful, generous, kindhearted, sweet woman. I will always remember her smile & laugh. My mother passed away September 17th, 2016. These women cannot be replaced. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Kerry Verrier (Kacsmar) (Friend) on: Sep 13, 2020

Although I did not meet her, I appreciate the way in which she and Jim befriended my son Paul, a friend of Graham’s. My condolences to the whole family. As you know we also lost our wife and mother Marie in June. We mourn with you. Ken Kuhn. - Posted by: Ken (Kuhn) on: Sep 09, 2019

Jim, Graham, Rand and Allison, we are thinking of you as you travel this journey and offer our sincere condolences. As you said, Brenda radiated positivity. Wherever we met as school volunteers, as parents with children at swimming lessons, skating lessons, sport games or on the street / at the grocery store Brenda was always engaged and engaging. We shall treasure these memories. Take care. - Posted by: Lefty and Donna Meder (Community Friends) on: Aug 29, 2019
