With great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved father and Nonno, Giuseppe Troia. Giuseppe passed away August 25, with his family by his side.
He is survived by his daughter Francesca, son Francesco, daughter Rosa (Rob), grand-children, Giuseppe (Amber), Margherita (Eric) and Alexander, brother-in-law Salvatore Lo Bello and wife Serafina in Sicily, sister-in-law Maria Lo Bello, and numerous nieces and nephews both in Canada and Italy.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Margherita, his parents, Francesco and Francesca, brothers, Salvatore (Francesca), Paolo (Angela), Antonino (Rosa) and Francesco (Maria), sisters, Maria Provenza (Salvatore) and Rosa Provenza (Paolo); as well as his brothers-in-law, Antonino, Angelo (Anita), Francesco (Margherita) and Giuseppe Lo Bello.
Giuseppe was born August 3, 1920 in Capaci, province of Palermo, Sicily. He was the youngest of his siblings and he was doted on. He was drafted at the age of 19 and then a year later he was called upon to serve in the Second World War for his country. He was a Bersagliere, which is a Special Forces unit where the fittest, strongest and the most able had the honour of wearing a distinct uniform and hat. To this day, he has kept his hat and cherished the privilege of being able to wear this uniform.
He met our mother Margherita during the war and they were engaged for 10 years and were married for 65 years until her passing in 2016. Our father cherished his wife and took care of her in every way, especially since her health was frail for most their entire married life. After retirement, his life was devoted to his grandkids. He babysat them, picked them up at school and dropped them off. The teachers all knew Mr. Troia and he had a special parking spot just for him, all three grandkids went to the same schools within a few years apart and he was always there, waiting. His purpose in life was his family.
Papà, you lost your final battle and you fought courageously until the end. But you were ready to go and be with Mom and your family. Even though you were 99 it does not make it any easier, you are a great loss for everyone and the last sibling in your family, I think they were all waiting for you to arrive. We love you and miss you.

Viewing will be held at Holy Rosary Church, August 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Mass will follow 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Entombment at Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum (1501 Waverley).
Donations can be made to a charity of your choosing, in his memory.
