DIANE ALEXANDRA CHATFIELD
(HALL)
April 5, 1944 - September 4, 2019
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Ron, cherished daughter Jayda, (Laszlo Temesvary) and treasured grandson Jensen. She is fondly remembered by her Aunt Jan Kray; cousins, Pam Hicks, Andrew Kray, Randy Kray (Decatur, GA), Mary Ann, Bob and Rick (Michigan); sister-in-law Connie Johnson and her daughters, Kelly, Carla and Sandra; and dear friend Helen.
Diane was predeceased by her mother Frances, in 1955; and her father Alexander, in 1977. After the passing of her mother, Diane was raised by her maternal grandparents along with the watchful eye of her special uncle Mickey Kray. Mickey would often take Diane along on his dates with Jan and knew that Jan was a keeper when she didn't object to Diane sitting between them at the movies.
Diane began her working career at the Manitoba Commercial College and soon transferred to the Personnel Department of the Metropolitan Corporation of Greater Winnipeg. In 1972 with the amalgamation of the City of Winnipeg and area municipalities, Diane moved to the Personnel Department at City Hall where she began working on the new pension plan which was implemented in 1976, at which time she became the Supervisor of Benefits Information in the newly formed Employee Benefits Department.
Diane and Ron were married in 1969 and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 20. They long awaited the arrival of their daughter Jayda, who joined the family in 1978. Jayda's arrival began a five year hiatus from the working world during which Diane became involved in many volunteer activities and which continued when she re-entered the workforce.
Diane volunteered throughout Jayda's various schools, with the Canadian Diabetes Foundation, was a longtime canvasser with the Canadian Cancer Society, was a member and served on the Executive Committee of the Canadian Polish Professional and Business Association and sat on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Polish Manor for many years.
She treasured the many friends she made in school and in her working career and organized many Sisler girls' luncheons, enjoyed her monthly gatherings with the Retro Metro girls and semi-annual meetings with the Employee Benefits staff.
In her retirement years, Diane joined the Kildonan Ladies Golf League and served on the executive as part of the Handicap Committee for seven years.
Diane's primary interest was in serving her parish of St. Alphonsus Church. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League for over 30 years and served on the executive since 1995 in various capacities including a term as Council President. She organized the Christmas Hamper program for over 12 years, served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, brought Communion to the patients of Concordia Hospital and to the sick and homebound of her parish community.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday September 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, corner of Munroe Avenue at Brazier Street. Following Mass there will be a reception in the St. Alphonsus Parish Hall with interment taking place at the Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 Main Street at 3:00 p.m.
If friends wish, donations can be made to the St. Alphonsus Building Fund, 341 Munroe Avenue, Winnipeg, R2K 1H2, CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, R3E 0V9 or to a charity of one's choice.

My heart hurts for you and your family. That first New Year's Eve, when we met Diane, I looked at you and saw you as complete. If we had been told then that you would be together for fifty years, it would have seemed like an eternity, but it's never long enough! Jeff has expressed his feelings well, as usual, and Patti and Terri join me in expressing our sympathy. - Posted by: Joan McConachy (Friend) on: Sep 13, 2019

Dear Butch, I can only imagine how hard a time this is for you. I know I was only a little boy when you met Diane but I remember her suddenly being part of your life and how your eyes changed every time you looked at her. I know that look know; I get it every time I look at my wife of 33 years and I can only imagine that when we reach fifty years I will still look at her with the unlimited love that you always shared with Diane. No amount of time is enough with a love like that you shared with Diane. I will always remember her fondly (I'm thinking of the red shoes story, or the pizza in Hawaii story specifically and laughing) and consider my life richer for the brief momens of connection I had with her. You were truly blessed to share a lifetime with her. Much love, Jeff (And Donna and all of our family) - Posted by: John (Jeff) Goring (Friend ) on: Sep 09, 2019

I first met Diane in April 1975 when I joined the City of Winnipeg's Personnel Department. Diane was an excellent employee...capable and hard working...and also so very kind and caring. A number of years later, I had the pleasure of working with Diane once again with the Employee Benefits Board, when she was a great help on a number of special projects. We will miss Diane so very much at our EBB Retirees lunches. - Posted by: Ken Hayes (Co-worker) on: Sep 07, 2019
