MICHELE ANGELO CASTAGNA
December 13, 1931 - September 4, 2019
Michele was predeceased by his loving wife Giacomina (Lina) Castagna (nee Costa), and son Mario Castagna. His memory will be forever cherished by his children, Saverio (Lori) Castagna, Tony Castagna and Rina (Frank) Consiglio; grandchildren, Dante, Cassandra and Isabella Consiglio and Lauren Castagna; and in-laws, Maddalena Castagna; and Nick and Carmela Costa.
Michele was born in Vibo Valente, Calabria, Italy on December 13, 1931 and was the youngest of eight children. In 1959 he embarked on the adventure of his life and came to Winnipeg. After a couple of years he returned to Italy to marry his true love and together they immigrated to Canada and built a life with their four children in Winnipeg. Dad worked in the construction business for many years working on projects such as the Richardson Building and the sugar beet factory. He also spent many years working on projects out of town in locations such as Flin Flon and Gillam. His desire to spend more time with his family pushed him to make a career change leaving construction to start work with East West Packers. After a lengthy career, he took a break and then decided to return to work where he delivered for DeLuca's. He loved this work as he was able to meet many people, share a joke or just say hello to acquaintances. No matter what he was working on, he continuously showed us the value of perseverance, hard work and dedication. For that we will all be forever grateful.
Special thanks to Dr. Mathews, the caregivers at Harmony Court and the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for ensuring his comfort. The family would also like to thank Alicia and Frank Consiglio for the enduring support and friendship they extended to our parents over the last few years.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held Friday, September 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., Winnipeg, MB. Rev. Father Sam Argenziano presiding. Condolences at 10:00 a.m. Entombment at Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, 1501 Waverley St., Winnipeg, MB.
Pallbearers will be his grandson Dante Consiglio, nephews, Saverio and Aldo Castagna, Tony and Franco Costa and friend Frank Consiglio. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, Mike Castagna and Nick Costa.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or a charity of your choice.

I would just like to say how very sorry I am to hear of Mike's passing. I enjoyed talking to him when he was at Harmony Court and I know my Dad did too, he always tried to watch out for him to make sure he was ok. Loved his stories about his delivery route and of course the Safeway stories. He was truly a very nice and kind man. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this very difficult time. - Posted by: Dorothy Prayag (Friend) on: Sep 11, 2019

Our condolences to your families. My wife and I had the pleasure of chatting with Mr Castagna on a regular basis as we walked with our dogs. He was an easy man to talk with both at work where I first met him and outside in his yard. He and his wife would come out just to admire our dogs while sharing a story. He always spoke so proudly of his children and their accomplishments as he knew I had worked with his children. When they moved away I would run into him the odd time and he would ask about my dogs and always say to me as he had done before “ be a good boy” Rest In Peace till we meet again Brigitte and Joe Missalino - Posted by: Joe Missalino (Friend) on: Sep 07, 2019
