GARRY GORDON PROCTER
October 28, 1947 - September 2, 2019

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Garry Gordon Procter, at his home in Woodlands, Manitoba.
Surviving to mourn his loss is his wife of 48 years, Cindy (nee Graham); sons, Brett (Shelly), Brad (Candace), and daughter Nadine (Jaret) Thiessen. Also left is sister Gail (John) Sinclair, brother Orval (Merilee) Procter, sister-in-law Debbie (Lyle) Wicklund. His grandchildren, Tiana, Alyssa-Lynn, Bryn-Lee, Evan and Tasha, will miss the caring Papa who loved them dearly and would often gently tease them. Also left to miss him are his nephews, Darrell, Ryan, Mitch and Corey, as well as nieces, Rochelle, Holly and Courtney.
Garry was predeceased by his parents, Sec and Lyle Procter, infant brother Glenn and mother-in-law Jean Graham.
Garry was born in the old Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, the third child of Sec and Lyle Procter. He grew up on the family beef farm in Woodlands, and attended Woodlands Elementary, and later Warren Collegiate. Garry loved and played many sports, but Hockey and Baseball were always his favourites. Many will remember him as their hockey or baseball coach. He also spent many hours preparing the curling ice and working on the ball grounds in Woodlands.
Garry spent his entire life working with beef cattle, but also worked off the farm, mostly with heavy construction companies. His most memorable job was working a summer in Whale Cove, NWT, now Nunavut. In his early years, Garry was an avid hunter, but as he got older, fishing became a favourite escape.
Garry was devoted to his family, and loved time spent with them. He will be remembered for his enjoyment of the simple things in life, time with family, having a drink and playing all kinds of competitive games. He was a regular at the coffee bars, but especially Race Trac Gas in Warren and CCL Woodlands (aka Studlers). Family and friends alike will miss his sense of humour, and the many stories he would tell.
Service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, September 12 at 2:00 p.m. at the Woodlands Community Hall, Woodlands, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations may be made to Woodlands Minor Baseball in care of Tara Lee Koss, Box 156, Woodlands, MB, R0C-3H0 (for diamond upgrades) or a charity of your choice.

  • I have great memories of working with Garry back in the early 70’s. We often drove together and sometimes even got home too late (for Cindy’s liking), had a lot of fun. Will miss him and especially the stories he would regale us with. RIP - Posted by: Bernie van Kemenade (Friend) on: Sep 09, 2019
