(APPLEYARD)
February 4, 1959 - September 13, 2019
Mom is survived by her husband of 39 years, Dale; her three children, Roberta, Patricia (Travis) and Michael (Marie-France); and her four grandchildren, Eden, Abigail, Allison and Jameson. She is also survived by her brother Glenn (Valerie) and her sister Linda (David); Dale's siblings, Chris (Netty), Wade (Joyce), Barry, Jackie (Martin) and Colleen (Scott); countless nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Lorna was predeceased by her parents, Bob and Doreen Appleyard, her father and mother-in-law, Bill and Alice Baker, and her brother and sister-in-law, Allan and Kathy Appleyard.
Mom was born at the Stonewall Hospital on February 4, 1959. She attended elementary school in Balmoral and high school in Stonewall where she met our dad, Dale. Mom and Dad were married on September 13, 1980. After living in Stony Mountain for 10 years they settled in Balmoral at their current residence in October of 1990. This is where we were raised and now where her four grandchildren will continue to make more memories and be constantly be reminded of their grandma.
Mom spent our early years being a stay-at-home mom and then started working at Ducks Unlimited Canada where she worked for 20 years and made many lifelong friends. She was very involved and very proud to be on the Harlequins and multiple other fundraising committees for Ducks. Mom shared her love of curling, line dancing, and country music with us. We spent many a morning dancing around the living room with her. As we grew older, our friends started calling her Mom or Mama Baker and she always made sure there was extra food at the table just in case someone dropped in. She frequently referred to our friends as her other children and was proud of all of them. Mom was also very proud of all of her nieces and nephews and was so close to them that even their friends also called her Auntie Lorna.
We would like to send a huge thank you to Roberta's medicine family and Dr. Alexander at the SRHC who went above and beyond and took such amazing care of her in her final week. Also to Dr. Loudon, Marcia at CancerNav, and to everyone who has helped with the grandkids, our dogs and helped keep Mom's life as comfortable and positive as possible.
A celebration of Mom's life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Stonewall on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. A private interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for Palliative Care funding to the "Selkirk Regional Health Centre Medicine Ward" c/o Leanne Nickel-Brown, 120 Easton Drive, Selkirk, MB R1A 2M2.

I have so many fond memories of Lorna who I was proud to call my cousin, even though it was our parents who were cousins. So many memories of school, sports and time spent at the Appleyard farm plus her beautiful smile when we ran into each other as adults. Dale, Roberta, Patti, Michael - I am so very sorry for your loss. Your Mom, Lorna -- has been a sparkling bright light since the day I met her nearly 40 years ago. I had the pleasure of growing up with this beautiful lady. We went to Balmoral school together, curled & rode horses. We reconnected 40 years later this past April & we both laughed remembering the time my horse unloaded a pile of nastiness down her leg in the middle of a parade.
