DOROTHY JONES
(nee PETERS)
Though born in British Columbia, she lived her entire life in Manitoba and was a prairie girl at heart. Rural life was for her and her happiest years were spent in Grand Marais, Manitoba. She was a natural gardener and her vegetables and flowers always did her proud. As a young woman, Dorothy worked at Eatons, in the coveted jewelry department on the corner of Portage Avenue and Donald Street. She married Walter Jones in 1948 and their two daughters followed. Being an only child, Dorothy embraced Wally's large family and had strong and lasting ties with his siblings and their families. All friendships were tender to her... and she had many. Dorothy cherished her longtime friendship with Trudy Sabo, and they never seemed to live more than a couple of blocks from one another. Her close ties with "girls club" continue to this day. A call or letter from her coastal friend, Laura Dowie, was always a welcome event. Dorothy could and would, find any excuse to gather people together and throw a party. With Wally by her side, their home in Grand Marais was warm, welcoming, and above all a place to have fun. They surely mastered it! Wally passed away a short time ago... in their 71st year of marriage. Their memories were many and their regrets were few.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Emily Peters, her beloved daughter Sandra Ryder and her son-in-law Bob Shipley. She is dear to the heart of her daughter, Brenda Shipley, and will be forever missed. Her memory will be cherished by her grandchildren, Kim Fyles (Evald), Jamie Fyles (Pia), Tyler Shipley and Vanessa Shipley (Jonathan). The families of Gavin Shipley and Chris Shipley will always hold fond memories of Dorothy. She was blessed with knowing four great-grandchildren, Anders Frederiksen (Katarina), Soren Frederiksen, Ulla Fyles and Astrid Fyles.
There will be no service at this time and flowers are gratefully declined. Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Dorothy along with Wally filled my days with so many warm memories. On 4th Ave renting across from them I was lucky to see them on a daily basis. Dorothy always had a smile when I saw her. Later in Grand Marais the horseshoe tournaments and Dorothy's hospitality were always great. My favorite memory was going to their bowling alley on Christmas Eve. My deepest condolences to the family. - Posted by: Laureen (friend) on: Sep 28, 2019
