Rearing children is a life-long experience in a loving environment and that is why “it takes a village”. Lydia was the Matriarch and it has been an honour to have been “adopted” into her family. Janina and Jessica instantly became best friends when they met in grade 6 at Bruce Middle School. And just like that the families joined and blended together. Lydia with a smile that didn’t leave her face was that display. She would tell you that no matter what came your way; it would be alright. Her expressions were truly inviting, happy, caring, empathetic, loving and wise. You would feel listened to and ready to face anything with strength and assurance. Lydia instilled this into each member of her family. Dan, Sandy & Alex, Wendy & Dan, Krista & Jared, Jared & Brynn, Jessica & Spencer, Joshua, Matthew, Jenna and everyone who had the privilege of knowing Lydia. Let’s carry on this “family tradition” of loving and raise a beautifully made village! My deepest condolences to hear of the passing of your mother; Dan, Sandy and Wendy and families. My fondest memory of both your mother and father, was meeting them in Moose Jaw, and we were sitting around playing yahtzee, and your mom and dad both taught me that when you rolled a yahtzee you had to open the door and scream YAHTZEE outside. I was just a kid back then but remember that like it was yesterday. May she find peace and be reunited with your dad. My thoughts are with you and your families. - Posted by: Catherine O'Dowda (nee Mowatt) (Friend) on: Sep 29, 2019

My heart aches. My Tante Lydia (and all of her peers from "the greatest generation") is forever in my heart and spirit. Dan, Sandy, Wendy: I am blessed to have your Mom (and your Dad and each of you) in my life. Reading today's notice has re-opened my memories of growing up with my aunts, uncles, and cousins. And I shed happy tears once again as I pause and recall: ... the Sunday dinners with Opa at the head of the table (and all the kids at their own table) ... family gatherings (!!!CHRISTMAS EVE into DAY!!!) at 374 Inglewood (and all us kiddos trying to sleep in one bedroom while the grown-ups partied in the basement) ... the picnics (and epic football and soccer at La Barriere park) ... spur-of-the moment kaffee-klatches ... and hanging out in Moose Jaw!!! (Sandy giving me curling pointers ("Rolf, don't fall!") at the rink when it was -30 - inside!) And at the center of my universe: our Moms. (Yeah, Dads were there, too - somebody had to drive us) Our Moms: ALWAYS LOVING, ALWAYS CARING. Tante Lydia: Danke!! Schlafen Sie gut. Du hast es verdient. - Posted by: Rolf Abt (Nephew) on: Sep 28, 2019
