NORMA REEVES
(née WASYLYK)
February 17, 1935 - September 25, 2019
Norma's memory will be cherished by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jana, Brian, Karen, Dave, Leslie and James. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Malaina and Cameron. Norma was predeceased by her husband Harry; parents, Anna and John; and all of her siblings, Marion, Olga, Margaret, Milford, Elva, and Joyce.
Mum was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the North End, the seventh child to hard working Ukrainians. Mum and Dad met at a Bomber game in 1959 and were married in June of 1961.
They lived in the North End with our Baba until Jana was born then moved to their Crestview home in 1963. After Harry's passing, Mum moved into her current home on Westwood Drive, where she made many new friends and was reunited with great friends and former neighbours, Peter and Marlene Young. Although she missed our Dad and was saddened to leave the family home, she embraced her new life on Westwood Drive and spent seven happy years there.
Mum was an avid sports fan and player from a young age. She was on many teams as a teenager and young adult, including Softball and Basketball. In fact, her team was inducted into the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame in 2005, but most importantly, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were her team and we all knew to not phone her during sporting events.
Mum spoiled us with her delicious cooking and baking throughout the years and continued the tradition with her grandchildren. She was a fun loving Mum and even more so with the grandkids. She would drop what she was doing to crawl around, play on the swings and find inventive things to do. Mum attended as many school and sporting events that she could to see her grandkids. Mum had a wicked sense of humour and could always be counted on to see the humour where there wasn't a whole lot to be found.
In compliance with Mum's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with a reception to follow.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Heath Sciences Centre ICU, especially Dr. Buduhan, Dr. Leblanc, Dr. Siddiqui and nurses, Sun and Jill for their utmost compassion and care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

My heart is sad for the fact that I couldn't be there in person to say goodbye. My heart was willing but my body said otherwise. Thank you for instilling the love of cats and a respect for animals in my young mind. Bet you never thought I would one day become Bertha Rand. Thanks for all your great cooking and baking and the knowledge that I would never leave your place hungry after any family gathering... and there were quite a few. Best of all tho, is teaching me the game of 'square'. That's just between you and me and last, give big hugs to Baba and all the rest of the family. As she once told me, it was all over in the blink of an eye. xo - Posted by: kelly mcgouran (niece) on: Oct 03, 2019

Jana, Karen & Leslie and families, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of you. Jana, I'm glad she got out to see where you live, as she missed you a great deal and it kind of filled a void. Karen & Leslie, she always talked about you two as well, and your families. She was a going concern til the end, and although we haven't seen each other for years, talked on the phone. I never knew when to phone her as she either was downstairs involved in what was going on there or off to the Casino (ha). My wish for all 3 of you is that in life you can make a friend or two for life and no matter what develops in your life, these friends are there forever. Baba called me her adopted daughter and when Norma lost her last sibling (Margaret) she said " All my sisters are gone, except you. She knew I didn't take the paper, so when anyone passed away that we knew she would call me. I can go on forever on stories about us, and trips we have taken together, etc., but just want you to know how grateful I was to be part of the Wasylyk family and a friend of Norma's, and wish the same good fortune for the 3 of you. You will miss her and it won't get any better, but as time goes on it will get easier and remembering the good times you had with her. Love to all of you, and rest in peace my buddy. Love Ruby. - Posted by: Ruby Ingram (Adopted Sister - so to speak) on: Sep 28, 2019
