JEAN TOMIAK
(nee HRYNIUK)
November 2, 1919 September 18, 2019
Jean was born in Pleasant Home on
November 2, 1919. She was the youngest of her family born to George and Hafia Hyrniuk, all of whom predeceased her. Jean attended Prout School and grew up in the
vicinity of Winnipeg Beach. She was married to Mickey in 1945.
Jean had many different jobs throughout her lifetime which included working as a
domestic, a riveter at Canada Car in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and in various restaurants, one of them being Skinner's in Lockport.
She enjoyed her garden and flowers and spent many hours outside in her yard on
Morris Avenue.
Jean loved friends and family to drop by for a visit and her doors were always open to anyone needing a place to stay. She had many boarders over the years. She was always
willing to give, lend a helping hand wherever needed.
In addition to gardening, Jean enjoyed her time as a hockey mom, and also enjoyed
fishing, baking and cooking. More recently, she was so excited to become a great-grandma in November, 2018 to Jett Michael Tomiak.
Jean was known to everyone as Aunty Jean, not only to her nieces and nephews, but to many others as well.
She was predeceased by her parents,
sisters, brothers, and her husband Mickey.
Jean is survived by her son Ray (Mary), grandsons, Michael (Melanie) and great-grandson Jett of Edson, AB; Jeffrey (Carly) of Chestermere AB; special nieces, Carole (Len) Bacon, Selkirk and Jeanne (Bill) Mazur, Winnipeg; brother-in-law Walter Tomiak (Shirley) of Winnipeg; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Betel Home in Selkirk for their care and
compassion during Jean's stay there.
A private family interment will take place at a later date.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Jean's memory can be made to a charity of your choice.

Although Jean was not my real aunty, she was aunty Jean and Mickey was Uncle Mickey. They were great friends to my Mom and Dad, and the only thing separating us was the back gate from our place to theirs. Aunty Jean used to cut my sister and my hair even though it was uneven bangs and just below the ears and I might add going to school having to explain why I had a bandaid on my ear my friends all knew “aunty Jean was cutting hair” I loved Jean she always called me over when she was baking to either test taste or putting the sprinkles on ...I remember rides to the beach she would take my sister and I for the day to give mom a break. I remember her most happiest time when Ray came along we called him Raymee but that was ok. My sister and I visited her when she moved from her home into a seniors home. We brought her flowers and it just so happened it was her birthday..when she moved to the nursing home I did go visit several times, the one time I remember she looked at me and said “Sophie” who was my Mom ...Aunty Jean was a beautiful woman with a kind beautiful soul ...She is with Uncle Mickey now I will never forget her and may she Rest In Peace💕💕💕 - Posted by: Caroline (Wasnie) Kowaliuk (Neighbors ) on: Oct 05, 2019

I had the pleasure of working with Jean at Skinners when I was a teenager. At some point Jean found out that our families came from the same area near Komarno/Winnipeg Beach and from that moment on, we had a special friendship. She was one of the most kind, gentle, caring women I had ever met and although I didn’t see her much after my early 20s, I have thought of her often throughout the years. My sincere condolences to Jean’s family. - Posted by: Patti Simko (Porayko) (Friend) on: Oct 05, 2019
