JEAN ZAPSKI
(MCGEACHAN)
Mom is loved and remembered by her children, Susan (Alan) Shead, Sandra Hunter and Greg (Vanessa) Zapski; granddaughter Miranda Messer; sisters-in-law, Jean Zegalski and Steffie Zapski; as well as many nieces, nephews and great friends.
Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Zigmond Zapski on May 24, 2015; her parents, John and Margaret McGeachan; and brothers, Fern, Edwin and John McGeachan.
Mom was born and raised in Transcona where she met and married the love of her life, Ziggy, in 1955. Mom was trained and worked as a secretary and as a railroader's wife, she packed up and moved with her family many times, living in Biggar, Watrous, Saskatoon (three times), Montreal, The Pas and Winnipeg (twice). Mom devoted herself to being the CEO of our family for which we are eternally grateful. When her family was grown, Mom returned to the workforce in many interesting positions in various cities and towns.
Mom had a love of life and was keen to try anything, especially if it was the new thing to do or looked interesting. She belonged to many groups and organizations and remained faithful to the Rebekahs, had fun with the Red Hatters and was passionate about Death with Dignity, where she travelled around Saskatchewan educating people on the importance of healthcare directives. The most important things in Mom's life were her family and the lasting friendships she made over the years. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she has touched along the way.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
Thank you to Dr. Elizabeth Whittaker and her team, Wendy and Tammy and Dr. Lawrence Homik for the care and compassion they have given Mom over the years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

I send my deepest sympathy to all Jean's family. It is hard to understand that someone so full of life is no longer with us. She will be deeply missed by all of us who had the good fortune to know her and to be her friend. She never forgot her friends, and kept us all in touch for so many years. She will always be in our fondest memories of good friends and good times. - Posted by: Shelagh S M Stevenson (nee Quelch) (friend of over 70 years) on: Oct 16, 2019
