WAYNE BELL
September 13, 1953 - October 1, 2019

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Bell, in Steinbach, MB, on October 1, 2019. Following a 12-year journey with Cancer, Wayne left us peacefully, as he had wished, at home surrounded by his loving wife, and dog Tucker.
Beloved husband of Mary Jane (Hiebert); he will be missed by his sisters, Barbara Bell; Wanda Bell and Art Lockhart; father-in-law David Hiebert, and MJ's family: Barbara Dueck; Colleen and George Loewen; Ellen Hiebert and Murray Penner. He will be remembered by his nieces and nephews and their children, cousins and many, many wonderful friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon Bell and Helen Smith; his mother-in-law Mary Hiebert, and his brother-in-law, Dietmar Dueck.
Born Gordon Wayne Bell on September 13, 1953, and raised in Killarney, Manitoba, he attended Killarney School, followed by Red River College. Wayne excelled at sports, especially football in high school, and he quickly developed a life-long love of golf. Wayne celebrated two holes-in-one and continues to hold the modern-day record with a 29 on the front nine at the Killarney Golf Course.
Wayne lived life to the fullest with many passions, the greatest of which were golf, woodworking, and being at the house at the lake in Killarney. He loved his wife, dogs, travelling and Miller High Life Beer. He enjoyed hosting family and friends, and we are grateful to have been able to celebrate his 66th birthday this past September on Friday, the 13th.
He celebrated life right to the end, with no regrets; showing us by example not only how to live, but also how to die with courage and grace. He approached cancer and his mortality with bravery and candor that were open and inspiring. He taught us so much.
The family expresses sincere thanks to Dr. Joel Gingerich and Cheryl Greaves at CancerCare Manitoba; Dr. Curtis Krahn and the team at CancerCare in Steinbach; EMS and RCMP in Steinbach. Thank you to the many friends and family who have provided love and support.
A celebration of Wayne's life will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 PTH 52 W, Steinbach, MB. Interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Wayne's memory to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

  • Just became aware of Wayne’s passing and send my condolences to his family. Even though it has been many years since I last saw Wayne, it is still a bit of a shock when someone you have known from kindergarten is no longer with us. It makes you take stock of how time is passing and that now we are senior citizens. My last encounters with Wayne were when I was still working and bumping into him every so often during lunch hour at the Norwood Motel. Even then you could tell he loved dogs because he always saved some of his lunch in a napkin for his dog. Growing up in Killarney, Wayne was part of a group of close friends that lived nearby each other. I lived at the other end of town so did not chum around with them as much, but I was lucky enough to associate with them a fair bit. Wayne’s athleticism could be seen from the early days through his growing up. As a kid, he was an excellent tree climber and I don’t think there were many trees in Killarney that he couldn’t climb. No matter what sport he undertook, he always seemed to be in the upper tier. I never could beat him at Badminton – once I was so close at winning just one game – then he decided, nope that game was his, and it was. I remember Wayne and I bought ten speed bikes at the same time in Brandon. They had to be back-ordered and delivered to Killarney. When they arrived, Wayne came over to my house to show me his bike. And wouldn’t you know it, he was already doing wheelies for a couple of hundred feet, on a ten speed yet!! I could never master that feat. Well Wayne, you may not be here to speak to, but those fond memories you have given those that knew you will last our lifetimes. - Posted by: David Green (Old school time friend) on: Oct 05, 2019

  • Being in Wayne's company always ensured lots of laughter. He was incredibly witty! Only fond memories of a wonderful guy! Our deepest sympathy to all the family and especially MJ and Tucker. With love, Wendy & Bill - Posted by: Wendy & Bill Thurston-Werry (friends) on: Oct 05, 2019
