MICHAEL CHANAS
Mike worked for 30 plus years with Gerdau Ameristeel MB (formerly Manitoba Rolling Mills) and intermittently with Manitoba Hydro.
The greatest gift a man can give his children is to love their mother, and that he did for 57 years. Dad's first thought when anything was happening was about mom, always making sure she was well taken care of.
During their years together they enjoyed travelling the world and later shared that love of travel with their nephew Paul and niece Carolyn, and then the twins.
Predeceased by his parents, Dymetro and Caroline Chanas; sister Kathy Mundt; brother John; and nephew Paul Chanas Jr.
Besides his loving wife Sharon, he leaves to treasure his memory and live life by his example are his children, Van (Shannon), Tanya (Ken); grandson Bryce; pet Kipper; brother Paul; nephew Paul Mundt (Laurie); nieces, Carolyn Cox, Shauna Chanas, Donna Chanas and Karen Walker.
Dad always took an interest in whatever his kids and his grandson were doing. Hours and hours spent in the car driving to lessons, games and performances. When his grandson Bryce played hockey, Pa was always there, driving him to practice, coming to games and out of town tournaments. One of his proudest moments was Bryce's first shut-out and also getting a matching Mustangs hockey jacket to match Bryce's.
The family is forever grateful to Dr. Sharma, nurse Lorie and the staff of 3 North at Grace Hospital. The care and guidance they provided to Mike and his family was exceptional.
Please join us at a Celebration of Life service to be held at 1:00 p.m. on October 9, 2019 at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations, if you so wish, can be made to your favourite charity.
Condolences may be left on his tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
