AUGUSTINE GEORGE (BUD) FOSTER
October 1, 1952 - October 3, 2019

We are deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Augustine George (Bud) Foster, on October 3, 2019 at the Grace General Hospital, with family by his side, following the most inspirational year long journey with pancreatic cancer.
Bud was born October 1, 1952 in Claresholm, AB into a military family living in various postings in Western Canada prior to building permanent roots in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 18. Bud met his wife Linda in 1977 and the two were married in 1980, welcoming their son Steven Augustine in 1987.
Bud graduated from the Computer Analyst Program (CAP) at Red River Community College in 1972. His education and natural inclination in this field led him to a 40 plus year storied career in Information Technology, first as an employee and contractor, then as the owner of L & B Systems Group (1996). Bud always took momentous pride in his work, and those whom he worked with. Known as a problem-solver and mentor, Bud was always the first to provide support for anyone who needed it.
Bud's favorite pastimes included road trips, movies, golf, travel, summers at the family cottage in Whytewold and adding to his famous collection of Hawaiian shirts. Bud retired from active project management in January 2019 and proceeded to live his life to the fullest until his significant decline in September.
Bud's wife Linda; son Steven (Allana); sisters, Debbie, Donna (Duane), Kelly and Karen (Kevin); aunt Dora Coreman; cousins; nieces; nephews; and extended family live to cherish and share his memory. He was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and Ralph Foster.
Bud's family wish to extend sincere gratitude to his medical team Dr. Y Kotecha, Dr. A. McKay, Dr. C. Kim, the CancerCare teams at Buhler Cancer Centre, Victoria Hospital and Grace Hospital CancerCare as well as the staff on 3S at the Grace Hospital who lovingly cared for Bud in his final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend.
Flowers gratefully declined; however, should you wish, please make a donation in Bud's honour to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Bud, you were a champion of grace and kindness, and your spirit shall be sorely missed by all. We love you.

  • Bud and I worked together for about three years but his impact on me will last a lifetime. He was so knowledgeable and wise that when we would meet I would try to soak up as much of his experience as I could. Bud was a compassionate and generous gentleman. I will always cherish the last time that I saw Bud downtown. Sending love and hugs to his family. - Posted by: Kevin Kowalchuk (Friend and co-worker) on: Oct 12, 2019

  • I hadn't known Bud for long, and we didn't have much opportunity to talk beyond work arrangements, but in the few opportunities we did, I could tell Bud was a genuine and insightful person. I had come away from our handful of lunches feeling motivated and optimistic because he always had interesting and inspirational stories to tell. My condolences to Bud's family. - Posted by: Josh Grand (Coworker) on: Oct 12, 2019

  • My sincere condolences to Linda and Bud’s family. I first met Bud 18 years ago when I started at WCB and Bud transitioned his project to me. I continued to work with Bud at WCB for 10+ years and then kept in touch through various project management events, lunchtime run-ins at the downtown malls or the occasional lunches! He always greeted me with a laugh and a smile....and what a smile! So many good memories. What a gentlemen and a friend he was. He will be so very missed. Rest in peace Bud. - Posted by: Kathie Allardyce (Co-worker/friend) on: Oct 12, 2019

  • Truly such sad news. I've had the pleasure to get to know Bud from his unique "skiing" abilities on the MTS ski trips. He was the centre of attention, always laughing and was always surrounded by people laughing with him. I can't remember ever seeing Bud without a huge smile on his face. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. - Posted by: Elden Fetterly (Friend) on: Oct 08, 2019

  • There are very few people you come across in your travels that are always somewhere on the positive side of the 'How ya doing today?' scale - even when the walls were crumbling down... Bud was one of the rare folks. I've missed his steady hand guiding projects we were both a part of and now I'll miss his smile and laugh when the work day's done... Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Daniel Bielak (Co-worker) on: Oct 08, 2019

  • To know Bud was to love him! He was the definition of a true friend - whether it was a ride home, sponsoring you in an activity, lending a book, or simply lending an ear, he had a way of making you feel truly special. I will miss his unwavering positivity, his joyful enthusiasm, his wit, and his wisdom. Thank you for so many wonderful memories Bud. Hugs to Linda, Steven and the entire Foster family. - Posted by: Christine Jonsson (Friend) on: Oct 07, 2019

  • Bud had a big heart. He loved his friends, co-workers and clients. We will miss his big smile and his big heart! - Posted by: Chuck LaFleche (Friend and Co-worker) on: Oct 07, 2019

  • Bud was a man of his word. When he said he snored really loud – he did. We bunked together on one of the MTS ski trips and had such a fun weekend. Next time he came, being the gentleman that he was he got his own room even though I never really complained because I snored too. And then in summer Bud and Linda would show up with goodies for the MTS golf tournament and we would golf with them. Margaritas flowed and it seemed Bud knew everyone and they were all friends. Positive and good humored. Linda, sorry to hear the news. Hope to see you out at the MTS Golf tournament at Selkirk in June – we’ll have a Margarita toast to BUD. • Our sincere condolences to Linda, Steven and Bud's entire family. Bud became a friend years ago through old timers hockey and golf trips to Palm Springs. Always up beat and friendly with a ready smile and kind comment. Bud had the kind of personality that drew others to him because of his warm and kind demeanor. A good man who was liked and admired by all. He will be missed. - Posted by: Doug and Pat Finkbeiner (Friends) on: Oct 06, 2019

  • Linda, Steven, Alana and family, I am heartbroken for you and all his friends. Bud was truly one of the best. He was kind and generous and always willing to drive anyone anywhere anytime. I enjoyed many a Jets game with Bud and many a beverage at various watering holes. When Bud took me for coffee to tell me about his illness, I lost it a bit and he was concerned about me! That was Bud in a nutshell, always concerned about others. We had so much fun on the ski trip a couple of years ago, singing and dancing. We had great laughs at the annual fundraiser and managed to win the year we called our team Bananas Foster. Bud loved his life, his family, his friends and I was just lucky enough to be included in that circle. I will miss him and think of him often. - Posted by: Cindy Wright (Friend) on: Oct 05, 2019
