REV. FLETCHER JEREMY STEWART
September 2, 1942 - September 25, 2019

First born to David and Pam Stewart in Weybridge, Surrey, England, the family moved to Agincourt, Ontario, when Fletcher was age nine.
Fletcher and Patricia (McCormick) married in 1967. Honeymooning at Expo67 in Montreal was a round-the-world tour.
Fletcher studied Arts & Sacred Theology at Trinity College, Toronto. Ordained to the Anglican Priesthood in 1969, Fletcher remained a faithful servant throughout his life, ministering in Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba. In The Pas for 22 years, he was rector of Christ Church for 11 years and Principal of the Henry Budd College for Ministry for 11 years. Students will remember him teaching in Moose Lake, Easterville, Grand Rapids and other communities, where he also enjoyed their hospitality
Fletcher and Pat moved to Winnipeg in 2002. He was appointed Interim Priest at St. Stephen and in 2004 Incumbent of St. James, retiring in 2009. In retirement he and Pat attended St. Matthew's Church where they continued to be actively involved.
Fletcher was kind and compassionate, a champion for social justice and environmental issues, calling attention to the needs of those who were marginalized, impoverished or homeless. He delivered many beautiful and insightful sermons.
He was a deliberate, intelligent, thoughtful and gentle man who had a wonderful sense of humour and carried a twinkle in his eye. He enjoyed science fiction and theatre, attending many Fringe and PTE productions.
Fletcher is survived by his wife of 52 years Pat; his three children: Guy (Hulda Karen), Reykjavik, Iceland; Caitlin, Souris; and Ben (Catarina), Winnipeg. Missing his loving ways and words are grandchildren, Bridget, Emily, Abby, Solveig and Paulina; great-granddaughter Nova; and a miracle great-grandson in Iceland. Fletcher and Pat were also surrogate parents to Rachel and her family, refugees from South Sudan. Also surviving are brothers Timothy, Patrick; and several nieces and nephews.
To celebrate his life, a service will be held at St. John's Cathedral, 135 Anderson Ave., Winnipeg, on Tuesday, October 8, at 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to PWRDF, 80 Hayden St., Toronto, ON M4Y 3G2.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Sincerest condolences to you Pat, Guy, Caitlin and Ben. Fletcher was such a great man, full of humour and wisdom. So many great memories of you all in The Pas as your neighbours oh so many years ago. Our family was so welcomed and received in your home and the church. I recall sharing so much with all of you. Loved discussing both theology but most of all Star Wars with you, Fletcher. Take good care, Bill Richards - Posted by: Bill Rivhards (Friend) on: Nov 25, 2019

  • Dear Patricia, My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Fletcher helped to make our world a better place and was welcomed with: "Well done, good and faithful one." • Dear Pat, sending you and your family my heartfelt solidarity and condolences. I met Fletcher late in his life.
