KIM PLETT

Kim Darlene Plett, aged 61, passed away suddenly Friday, October 4, 2019, at her home in Winnipeg.
Kim was born September 5, 1958 in Moose Jaw, SK and married Kurt Plett August 1, 1981 in Winnipeg, MB.
Kim was predeceased by her father George in May 2011 and her father-in-law Peter in May 2018.
Kim, being the daughter of a Co-op Manager, lived in several small towns across Saskatchewan and Manitoba, until graduating Grade 12 at Major Pratt High School in Russell, MB. Kim then attended the University of Manitoba and graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy in 1980 earning the Silver Medal for scholastic achievement. Upon graduating, Kim entered into a post-doctoral program eventually deciding this was not the career she wanted and moved to a career in retail pharmacy until health concerns forced her to retire in the spring of 2006 following a rewarding 26-year career. Kim had a passion for geriatric pharmacy and a special interest in the health care concerns of our First Nations people where she made many lifelong friends. Along with a passion for pharmacy, Kim also loved the ski slopes of North America taking several annual winter vacations to the Rockies and summer camping, cottage trips and oh yes, boating at the family cottage where she proved to be a master angler fisherwoman many times over. Kim was also a voracious reader of literature, her taste ranged from mystery to romance to sci-fi and scientific and medical journals. The love of our collective lives was truly a remarkable woman.
Kim is survived by her husband Kurt; mother Lorraine; sister Diane; nephew Curt; niece Erin (Chad); and great-nephews and nieces, Grant, Geo and Elsa; mother-in-law Dorothy; and sister-in-law Debbie (Ron).
The family wishes to thank the many caring and dedicated health care professionals at the Sherbrook Street Dialysis Unit and Health Sciences Centre.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba branch.
A private family ash interment will take place at Brookside Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life in Moose Jaw at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I am truly saddened, to hear of Kim's passing. I enjoyed many years, styling Kim's hair & helping her feel wonderful. Although I had never met her family, Kim and I shared a wonderful bond, and had many warm conversations, and I truly felt like she was family. I was honoured to know Kim, she knew how to light up any room. To Kurt, her family & friends my sincere condolences at such a tremendous loss. I have and will truly miss you, Kim. - Posted by: Amanda (Friend) on: Aug 08, 2020

  • Kurt and family: I echo my fellow classmate John Gray's comments about Kim's "pixie-ish" glint in her eyes and her ever-present smile during my four years as a classmate. I was shocked to learn this morning, in reviewing the "In Memoriam" pages online, that she had passed. My belated sympathies go out to you and our family. I, too, lost my mother and mother-in-law 8 days apart this January 2020 and can appreciate the aftermath. May your memories sustain you of a life alongside a wonderful person and humanitarian. - Posted by: Kim Ruthig (fellow Class of '80 grad) on: Apr 02, 2020

  • Kurt, so sorry to hear of Kim's passing. Our thoughts are with you. I was shocked to hear about Kim's passing. I still picture her as the classmate that always had a huge kind smile and a twinkle in her eyes. I will always remember post-squash breakfasts with you (and sometimes the ladies), a ski-trip to the US and many memorable parties together, including your wedding. Hopefully your memories help you find some comfort in the days and months ahead. Again, my deepest sympathy for your loss. - Posted by: John Gray (fellow Class of '80 grad) on: Oct 30, 2019
