MARIA RAUCH (MITZI)
February 15, 1934 – October 9, 2019

Peacefully on October 9, 2019, Maria Rauch, aged 85, passed away after a brief illness.
Maria will be lovingly remembered by her son Wally (Sheila) Rauch; grandchildren, Chris (Annick) and Clint (Meagan); step-grandchildren, Ryan (Shani) and TJ (Sarah) and great-grandchildren, Kendall, Caden, Emmett, Brooks and Brecken; sister Hilda (Rolf) Henning; and nieces and nephews, Brenda (Hobie) Searles, Steven Henning, Michelle (Jody) Marchant with Hannah, Carolin (Urs) Luginbuehl with Nicole (Alex) and Cayde, Paul Rauch, Ronald (Denise) Rauch, Chris Rauch with Amelia and Ramona (Chris) Mohr; former sister-in-law Hedy Rauch; and long-time friend Nick Cascegna. Maria was predeceased by her parents, Maria and Josef Rauch; sister Frieda Mohr; brothers, Frank, Joe and Bob Rauch and sister-in-law Rose Rauch.
Maria was born on February 15, 1934 in Unterlag, Slovenia and immigrated to Canada with her parents and siblings in 1953, settling in Winnipeg. She worked for many years at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue and continued to work part-time catering private functions after retiring. Mitzi was deeply devoted to her family, raising her son Wally as a single mother, babysitting her grandsons and helping to care for her parents. She had close relationships with all of her siblings and her many nieces and nephews throughout her life and, in more recent years, enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren. Mitzi's door was always open – for a visit, a meal, or a place to stay. She loved hosting family gatherings and having family and friends around. Maria will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
The family would like to thank Mitzi's friends and neighbours for their kindness, and the staff at Grace Hospital for their compassion and care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maria's memory to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held at a later date at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I am so very sorry to hear that Mom Maria Rauch had passed away. I have known her since I was 16 and dating Wally in high school. And then again later in life when I met Wally again and we were married. She was always very kind to me, and I always enjoyed visiting with her. She was always so happy when friends and family came over and we could all sit at the dining room table and we would have the greatest conversations about everything and everyone. I have missed her over the years when I was no longer a part of the family. I drove by her place many times, remembering the many happy times at her place. Family reunions, family barbeques, family get togethers. She was always a gracious hostess and was in her glory when she had company over. During the earlier days, I also would go with her to many of the catering jobs that people still asked her to help with. I have many great memories of those times with her – and with the Rauch family. Rest in Peace Wonderful Lady. You will be missed very much. • I was very saddened to hear of Maria's passing. I worked many years with Maria at the Shaarey Zedek and still tell stories of her to the newcomers. May your memories ease the pain of your loss. - Posted by: William Croydon (Coworker) on: Nov 19, 2019
