WINNIFRED OLGA O'CONNOR
(nee FRANK)
February 23, 1921 September 25, 2019
She was born into a large family who lived on a farm in Camper, Manitoba. As a young woman, she worked as a switchboard
operator at the Winnipeg General Hospital and later she had a job at the airport picking parts for the airplane mechanics.
Winnie married her husband Peter in 1946 and together they had four children. They
enjoyed raising their family, spending
summer vacations traveling and camping at Wallace Lake until 1963 when a cabin was bought on Jessica Lake. When her husband's health caused him to retire early the couple spent spring, summer and fall out at the
cabin, often hosting their grandchildren.
She had a natural ability with little
children. While in Winnipeg, she was a
volunteer in elementary schools. She did one on one sessions with children who needed more confidence to take part in classroom
activities. In 1970 the family moved to Stony Mountain and Winnie volunteered at the local elementary school there. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Stonewall, Manitoba and her favourite activities included rock hounding, music, sewing clothes and quilts, planting a garden and watercolour painting.
Winnifred is survived by son Monty
(Kathy), daughter Mary, daughters-in-law, Misty and Sheila, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by husband Peter and sons, Patrick and Rory.
Thank you to the staff at Beacon Hill Lodge for their care and compassion these last three years.
